Could this lead to her being in The Music Man Live?

I would love this. But assuming you're thinking of her as Marian, would she read a little too old?

I don't know, I've always thought it might work if Marian read a little older. Harold Hill always reads old. Besides, Kristin was 35 when she did it, and Kelli is only 38.

It also might enhance the verging-on-old-maid aspect of the character. Also, how long ago is it implied that she made the brazen overtures with Madison?

Exactly. I remember watching the Music Man when I was, I don't know, 10 and thinking "why are they all saying she's so old? Why does her mother want her to get married so badly? She's only, like, 20!"

This definitely is a small role versus what Kelli has done on Broadway. However, this is a 1 night thing. And if she really didn't want to do it, she wouldn't have signed a contract.

Kelli would be 39 at the time it would air. And now she'll have the "From NBC's Peter Pan Live.." tagline before her name. I don't know, just wishful thinking :)

Kelli's BUSY! She's doing Mrs. Darling, singing at the Met (second lead female in The Merry Widow -- which will be on the Live in HD on January 17), and co-starring with Ken Watanabe in an upcoming revival of The King and I.

1. She will be making a VERY pretty penny for two scenes on a national televised event broadcast. Easy money and great exposure with minimal work. Something most people aspire to. Why do you mean she "is better than'" a role such as this ?
2. Mrs. Darling does not "traditionally" double as a Mermaid. The Marooners' Rock scene in the musical was heavily adapted (and interpolated from) Barrie's play for the RIGBY staging which she has been peddling disincentive 1997. That is ONE staging / production.. There is no "tradition" there.
