I heard a rumor this weekend that Kelly Osborne has been cast as Tracey in Hairspray... does anyone know anything about this? Is it completely false? If it is true will she be in New York, or is it a tour.... I don't know how I feel about her in this role if it is the truth.... I'm pretty sure I would hate it!

Shaiman denies Osbourne to star in HAIRSPRAY
Oh gawd. I think you're actually serious about this question.
Perhaps a use of our friend the search function can give you the answer to this many times asked question.

I'll definitely check the search engine before even dreaming of posting a simple question next time. Gawwwwd! dont worry about it... sometimes people get cranky, we're usually not that bad, but this particular topic has been discussed a few times, since the rumor first appeared over a year ago.
If you watch Life as We Know It, Kelly's British accent can barely be detected and she is quite often very bubbly. My only problem is that she does not enunciate very clearly and is difficult to understand through mushy consonants much of the time.
Kelly sang at the Aussie MTV Awards this week and wowed the crowd with her determination to remain off-key.
Here's what the IMDB said (using the same quote I think):
A Broadway musical boss has slammed Kelly Osbourne's claims she is to star in his New York production of Hairspray - because she hasn't even auditioned. The MTV star recently revealed she had been cast as Tracy Turnblad in an adaptation of John Waters' movie - news her mother confirmed in an interview with newspaper the New York Post. But Tony award-winning composer Marc Shaiman is confused - because the 20-year-old has never been approached about the role, and he doubts she possesses the necessary talent. Shaiman writes on internet message board All That Chat, "Ms. O just got a tad carried away with her words in front of a reporter. If (she) wants to audition for Hairspray, we can't wait to see what she can do! I know she has a strong set of pipes on her, but whether she can act the part, lose her accent and not break character and tell someone in the front row to 'Get your f**king feet off the stage, ya f**king a**hole!!' remains to be seen."

Kelly Osbourne= final nail in the Hairspray creative coffin.
How the most magic filled show there is at present on the Rialto, with such an overflowing musical heart could have stumbled the way it has performance-wise shocks me!
The energy, the "replacements", the terrible comedic choices of Mr. Vilanch as Edna(BRUCE, you are playing a WOMAN and a MOTHER!Not doing 15 minutes of gags at the Improv), OY, what has become of the citizens of Baltimore? I returned to the show a few nights back and was SHOCKED at the shape it's in, calling the creative team, it's Code Red on 52nd St!
Do we really need ANOTHER thread on this topic:

Although she would probably be great in "CatSpray"....IMO.
