Kelsey Grammer to switch roles in LA CAGE?? — Page 2

Personally, I'd much rather see Grammer and Tony Shalhoub swap roles. Grammer would be a great Saunders in "Tenor" and Shalhoub is such a versatile actor that he could probably handle either role in "La Cage" (though admittedly, I have no idea if he sings and if not, that would be a problem!).

Paljoey that made me LOL and my father just gave me the strangest look for it. I guess its an intresting idea, and i for one am a fan of Grammar and so Id be intrested to see both takes but considering Hodge is supposed to be brilliant and could very well .win the tony im not so sure then that Id want to see someone else take over. Plus, I see Grammar much more as Georges than Albin. But i wont pre judge until/if I get to see the show.

"Now you just put David Hyde Pierce in the Georges role and you've got another year of a run. "Frasier reunited"
I'm a huge Frasier fan and I'd sell my first-born to see Kelsey Grammer and DHP on stage together in almost anything. Even so, the idea of them playing a couple like George and Albin just seems a little 'incestuous' somehow.
The temptation to fly over to see this show just gets stronger and stronger... must resist. At least we've got DHP in La Bete in London to look forward to (amongst other things).

I bet he wanted the Albin role and this deal is a compromise.
KG is looking quite old now, isn't he?

If only Sean Hayes and Kristen Chenoweth could work out a similar arrangement.
Yes, Sean Hayes is more suited for the role of 'Fran Kubelik' than he is for 'Chuck Baxter'.

the question begs, on the inevitable cast recording will they let Kelsey record I am what I am as a bonus track?

Yes, it was well known that Grammer was in discussions for this double role even before he signed on as George. Albin's a juicier part, Hodge is only temporary, and as wildcat said, word is that this switch is indeed the carrot that got Grammar to commit to the production. Riedel even had an article in November that quoted a production source referencing this as a possibility.
jonartdesigns, I think that's a great idea (if we actually get a revival recording this go around)! Someone needs to casually drop the idea around Grammer...I'm sure it would be quickly picked up.

Does that mean that Grammer can be nominated for a Tony this year for Georges and then next year for Albin?

Sounds wonderful! I'm seeing the show next month, and I'll be back in November to see it again.

No, only the opening night cast is eligible for awards.
The Tonys briefly had a replacement award, but dropped the idea before they could award it to anyone.

Are you kidding? This is brilliant marketing at it's finest. Now you just put David Hyde Pierce in the Georges role and you've got another year of a run. "Frasier reunited"
It took me a moment there to remember that Grammer and Hyde Pierce aren't actually related to each other, but even still that strikes me as very squicky. Ew ew and again I say EW.
Although David Hyde Pierce would surely make an adorable Georges if he wanted to. :3
