I loved all of the tributes.
How funny was Chita Rivera! Carol Burnett didn't even recognize her until they said her name...and neither did I. And Reba as Norma Desmond! Those facial expressions were priceless.
Bernadette Peters did a beautiful job singing that song; and it was so great to hear Julie Andrews sing again. Carol looked truly touched to see Bernadette because she knows she's in a Broadway show right now; so that was nice.
I enjoyed seeing Candice Bergan and Meryl Streep on stage together. They are 2 of my favorite actresses.
And Christine Baranski! ![]()
The children playing the Violins and other instruments were wonderful. I'm always slightly jealous when I see children who are so dedicated. It just proves how lazy I was as a child. lol

i enjoyed hearing Schneider and Bakula sing. i particularly enjoyed hearing Bakula again, it's been a while. His tenor notes in the harmony sounded amazing. That guy needs to get back to Broadway, IMHO. Great actor and easy on the eyes.
i tuned it late (just as the Bob Mackie costume parade was beginning) though i had taped it too. Was Vicki Lawrence not a part of the tribute?
#8re: re: re: re: Kennedy Center Honors
Posted: 12/27/03 at 2:24pmNow that you mention it, no, Ms. Lawrence wasn't there. Harvey and Tim were, but not Vicki Lawrence.

Posted: 12/27/03 at 2:28pmi wondered about that....haven't watched the tape yet. The tabloids probably won't cover it, as they may be avoiding Burnett since she won the lawsuit about her daughter (plus the daughter's subsequent early death). Otherwise we'd hear at least from them if there was a feud of some sort. i know Lawrence has been touring a show with the "Mama Harper" character plus music and other comedy.

Is it just me or did CBS conveniently re-order Iztak Perlman and Ms. Burnett so that Ms. Burnett would be last and therefore "force" the viewers to watch to the very end. I found that to be very offensive considering it was very obvious that the presentations were just "going down the line" and then all of a sudden there was a jump to Mr. Perlman, leaving Carol for last.
And I noticed Vicki Lawrence's absence as well. Thought that was odd.
And What was up w/ Patrick Wilson's sideburns? Is he involved in a project now that requires them?
And Georgia was *AMAZING*...and Elaine May was hilarious...

Posted: 12/27/03 at 3:34pmThe Kennedy Center show may have been taped while TSMrW was filming THE ALAMO. Hence, the sideburns.

Taped in early December, per usual. As always, one of the classier nights on TV. Question: was there a gay men's chorus behind someone singing during the Nichols segment that went unbilled? I was hoping it would be announced, and we'd get a close-up of the Cheney box.
Did anyone else think (per post above) the single most emotional moment was hearing Julie Andrews actually ... sing? She is terrified of using her "new" range, which is really an extension of her speaking voice. It was touching, seeing her take the risk for her dear friend. I must say, her musicality is still lovely, and there are wonderful roles that could use that sound/more limited range -- Phyllis in FOLLIES to Desiree come to mind.

Gorgeous: I know I gushed, but Andrews only sang about 16 bars. I may have oversold it. It was the personal risk taken by this previously pristine soprano that engendered all the emotion in me. I'd hate to oversell it as a "performance" per se. Alas, they don't repeat these shows.

Posted: 12/27/03 at 10:38pmdid anyone catch the Julie Andrews/Christopher Plummer one-night concert "Christmas Spectaculars" tour? i think they played Canada and some northeastern cities. Julie may have only been on it last year, with Angela Lansbury on the same circuit this year. It had a boy's choir from England, and some ballet company too, plus Christmas readings, a full symphony orchestra, and of course music. Just wondering if Julie sang live for those...and if so, what. Didn't she also sing on one of those Richard Rodgers memorials for the anniversary (even after her throat surgery)? c'mon, some SuperAndrewsFan out there must know her latest musical gigs...
