Always a classy and enjoyable watch...no matter who's being honored.

The program was taped on December 4th. Weeks before WICKED loaded into the Opera House.

anyone know if this will be re-aired? I can't believe I missed it.
What was that with Tyne at the piano, She looked like she was auditioning for "Jeanette" in "The Full Montey" - Actually, I was waiting for Stritchie to shimmy out, LOL!
Good for you Miss Julie Harris!!! The Theater Goddess!!
(Must admit though, I enjoyed Tony Bennett's show section the most! Anyone know the name of the first Trio that played?)

No, It's SOSH. LOL!
well it was just a question, as I have no idea what they are talking about.
I've commented quite a lot on the other Kennedy Center thread about the performances. No, not everything is about Wicked.

it's just a friendly jab..
BTW, is it just me, or was the orchestra during the ballet terrible!
I was kinda vegging out since it was Mozart so I couldn't say - I'm still on antibiotics from my Christmas Cold, cough:
hmm I wasn't really paying attention to the music...which is strange, as I played in orchestras for years usually I notice it right away. I was too engrossed with watching the dancers, haha, I don't get do see enough ballet.
SingingBackup, that is exatlt what I was thinking. I liked the ballet but the soundwasn't that great.
Also I felt bad for Beyonce because they did close ups of her making, not so pretty, faces. I mean she's pretty but during some of the dancing she made a face, and well the camera shouldn't have been on zoom.
Beyonce would have been good if "What's love got to do with It?" were done in this decade. Angela Basset was brilliant as Tina! Anyway, Beyonce had everything down, I noticed that all the choreography was Tina's original moves as well with the "Ikettes" behind her- and after Latifah poking out on that song (Just sing the song and do not ask everyone to sing for you or with you!) - Tina's face looked like the Liberty Bell (Like, uh, I waited all night for - THIS?) then Ethridge comes out and blew chunks on "River Deep, Mountain High" (again, Tina's face was like OH NOO!!) and finally, Beyonce gave her a decent tribute, although Beyonce flubbed up 2 times, She repeated "Listen to the song now" in the beginning talk twice since she was nervous and in the line "Cleaned a lot of Plates in Memphis, and pumped a lotta tanks down in New Orleans" (after that line she messed up what should have said "Still I never saw the good side of the City till I hitched a ride on a riverboat queen" - I don't recall what she sang but it was a flub, she covered it well though!)
Al Green, It was Great to see him but not the climax TT should have gotten - She was giving Beyonce Thumbs Up all the way though!
It also looked like TT was putting on some weight as well, but hey, If I were TT and already did my farewell concerts, I may put on some pounds too, People do not realise how old she really is: which is 66 but hey, She IS Tina Turner!
Maybe it was this cold I have, or the antibiotics, but I thought the Honors were a bit sad tonight, it had a sad note of "Yes, That's what I DID" to it like now all they had to do next was go off and die somewhere - Maybe it was just me. (Or the antibiotics!)
Anyway, I still would like to know if anyone knows who the Trio was that played "I left my heart in San Francisco" was - They were amazing! (I looked at the screen and saw "Surrender Dorothy" and thought "What an interesting name for a Trio!" then later saw the tv film commercial - duh!)
Diana Krall sounds wonderful but needs a stylist, and K.D. was simply a class act!
Okay, I'm done with my rant now, thanks:)
So sorry to "double-post", but I just read this about Beyone's performance, They should have left it in the show to diplay what a Pro she was, Now I feel bad about my quibbles.
"Beyoncé Knowles, in a dead-on imitation of Turner, right down to the hair-flip and rapid butt jiggle, opened Proud Mary with, "You know, when I think of Tina, I think of two Tinas in my life. My mother, Tina. And the amazing Tina Turner."
With the entire audience on its feet, Knowles' microphone malfunctioned shortly into the song, but a tuxedoed stagehand was able to swap a working mike into the stand before Knowles dived into the second half of the song."
Beyonce, I stand corrected Miss Thing, You are THAT GOOD!!
beyonce tow it UP!!! i really loved the wynton marsalis number really sublime. vanessa williams is an ok singer but she is UNREAL GORGEOUS. like, are you animated? diana krall is one of the most boring performers i have ever seen on a large stage, but her stank works up close on camera. for me the julie harris tribute was inadequate. the song was not appropriate. there should have been more GREAT ballerinas there for suzanne. her tribute was also inadequate. i was proud that there were lots of gay people doing their thing in front of the chimp. i missed the redford bit. at least dubya didn't chew gum like last year.
