I adore Kerry Butler. She's got tons of charisma and think she sings rings around both Spanger and Wise. Maybe Kerry is being considered for the movie? That would be a terrific break. She looks younger than 38. She'd be a great addition to ROA either way.

Kerry is great, she's got a killer voice, and she would do really well in "ROA"....

So what? Kerry has proven her stamina in roles before. For example, look at Xanadu where she was onstage for a majority of the show. Granted, it was a 90 minute show, but she spent almost the entire time onstage in roller skates.

Being 38 years old is not the reason Amy Spanger could not handle Rock of Ages. Proper training and self-care play major factors in someone's ability to handle a role. Maybe she wasn't taking care of herself enough to be able to handle the role. Also, you don't know what other issues she ran into.

I still fail to see your issue as well. There are plenty of rock and pop performers today in their late 30s, 40s and 50s who still give exceptional and high-energy concerts.

I would have to agree with "the Pud." Some roles are made for younger actors and actresses, and the role of "Sherrie" is one of them...in my humble opinion.

As long as you look/read the part, there is no excuse as to why someone can't play a certain part. The question is do you take care of your voice and body to a point where you can handle the role?

For example, look at Elle Woods, another role written for a younger person that requires stamina. Laura Bell Bundy was in her mid-20s when she assumed the role, and her voice got shot eventually. Wasn't Becky Gulsvig older than Laura when she assumed the role? In my opinion, her voice was able to handle the demands of the role much better. Not to mention she was touring.

NYTheatre01, you are right in saying that certain roles are made for younger actors, but to actually question someone's capability to handle the role based on their age is just stupid. If you are 38 and able to play a role such as Sherrie, then what is wrong with that if you look the part? I didn't even know Amy Spanger was that old.

And implying Amy Spanger's age had anything to do with her inability to handle the role is just as stupid.

Yeah, but if someone Kerry's age can handle it (including Kerry herself) and looks the part, then what is wrong with someone who, on the basis of her age, you do not consider young enough to play the role? You don't give any reason to back up your thought. Some people well into their 30s look extremely young. Heck, I didn't even know Amy Spanger was 38.

Again, many older performers still have the stamina to tour and perform in rock/pop concerts, so how is this different?

And just because "Amy Spanger is 38 and had to leave the show" is not an excuse.

Is it possible she would be taking for Laren Molina? I thought I heard she was leaving soon. Although, the part is probaly a little small for her.

I really hope she doesn't sign for ROA. Or if she does, that she will be out when I go in Oct. I just don't think she is a good fit for for this show. Age has nothing to do with it.

Have you seen the show, Wally? Are you going back for seconds? I think she is a great choice. The role demands someone to be really funny, really cute, and sings well. Kerry is all those things. And she has a very different vocal style from Amy Spanger so to make the comparison that since it was hard on Amy it will be hard on Kerry is ignorant.

I've seen it 3 times. I just don't care for Kerry at all. I find her acting really irritating. Her voice is ok.

I dont think there is any way that Kerry would be replacing Molina. Would love to see her play Sherrie ! Just saw that she is going to be at Feinsteins on 11/9 & 11/16 as well.

I don't think she is as big a name as some people make her out to be, but I know she has her fans and that will be good for the show if she gets some new people to see it. I wasn't even comparing Kerry to Amy. I only saw Amy once. I've seen Kelli Barret and Savannah Wise also. I just can't imagine I will like Kerry...but then I couldn't stand Constantine before ROA and now I think he's perfect for it.

She sounds like a big name on this thread because she is well-known within the theater community. Outside of that, not many really know her as an actress. As you said, she does have her fan base, which will be a good thing for the show.

I was just thinking, I don't see how her age in real life should or would be an issue. There are tons of actors and actresses who are much older then the character that they are playing but look younger and that is why they got the job. Take a look at Phantom of The Opera, other then the movie, I don't think that there has been an actress who has played the role of Christine on Broadway who is in real life close to or even the same age as the character is supposed to be. Yet, there never seems to be a shortage of people who are able to play the role of Christine.

One of the beauties of acting in theatre V film is that in theatre, because there aren't any close ups or anything like that, someone who looks younger and can read younger can get cast in younger parts.
