re: re: re: re: Kerry Butler!!

Did you change your font in replying to billyweeds to make it "butch" or something?

I second that! I wasn't aware that what people in the entertainment biz do was on par with brain surgery. I think Billy is dead on and I've said it many times(yes Jack, I love reiterating my own statements), Kerry shouldn't give a rats "behind" what posters on a messgae board think about her. Critics are a different animal completely. But us, she can fully write off.

Al-

I think you misunderstood what I was saying (and I know you love repetition that you love repetition)

I have no idea if Kerry or anyone else from any show reads this board or any other. And you are right, if they do, they should take it with a grain of salt.

My snarky comment had to do with the fact that billy seemed to equate what he considers a great salary with not caring what was said about him.

Whether I was making $5 an hour or $5000 an hour, someone who disrepects me is disrespecting me.

And before you bring up the message boad "not giving a rats behind" argument. Being disrespected is being disrespected wherever it is. And the fact that she might not even know only makes it that much more obnoxious.

I truly wonder if those who have been so spiteful to Juliana, Bruce, Sutton, Kerry, Melanie, whoever would actually have the guts to say how they felt to that persons face.

To answer your question: "HELL NO, Jack" This is why they go on online message boards and hide behind avatars of random theatre stars or theatre related icons, and rant and get overly excited when reviewers who, to some extent are legitimate in writing a critical analysis of a piece of theatre, suddenly agree with their "assesments". It's pathetic.

Actually, Ballessdeer, I'm planning on telling Juliana exactly who I am and exactly why my concerns about her posts are real to me and people I care about the minute my travel schedule and The Millie Tour schedule overlaps. And the way that's shaping up, it's going to be pretty soon. It'll be to PROVE that I have not been being spiteful.

Well on more than one occasion I've spoken to "stars" or other theater people and told them how I felt, including Debbie Allen regarding her dreadful work on CARRIE or made a passionate assessment to fellow producers regarding the merits of certain productions. And when Inex tsee Jerry Zaks I plan to tell him how much he let me down with his LSOH.

Unless I'm missing something, being on stage leaves one open to opinions of one's performance, good and bad, in papers, online, on the street, in coffee shops, etc. It would be nice, perhaps, if people online weren't vitriolic, but that's not always how it works.

I haven't seen Kerry Butler in anything, so I'm not qualified to speak on that topic, but I just thought I'd throw that out there. Play on. re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: Kerry Butler!!

Honesty is not just a river in Egypt, Jack. It's funny how people on this board think anything remotely negative is inherently spiteful. I'm surprised people over the age of 12 haven't figured out ways to be truthful without damaging people but would rather lie through their teeth.

I would have no qualms about speaking my mind either. It's an occupational hazard for me. I have to make very honest and sometimes brutal assesments to many people, face to face.

Gee...IF ONLY we could tell Juliana "who" to beware of she could get the restraining order she so desperately needs to keep this "akafindingnamo" entity from getting near her.

It's VERY odd that ONLY akafindingnamo has concerns about this mythical company reaction to Juliana's Journal when NO ONE IN THE COMPANY is fessing up.

Namo

I have searched mapquest for the past 5 minutes and can't find the river Honesty in Egypt. It would appear the internet isn't as resourceful as it seems.

You'll get no argument from me about honesty. At the same time, there's much to be said about discretion and tact. I am sure that when/if Sheekala meets Jerry, she will offer her opinion intelligently. My comment to her was tongue-in-cheek. I forgot to put a smiley face in my message.

I'm trying to think about how I usually handle negative opinions and whether or not I am inclined to offer them when not solicited. I think I choose to be quiet rather than vocal if there is something or someone I do not like or respect. When asked I am happy to offer my opinion or analysis. But I don't think I would go up to someone (who wasn't in my inner circle of friends or colleagues) that they let me down.

There have been quite a few occasions that I have been to movie premieres and theater productions and sat next to the star, director, producer or whoever and been asked my opinion - which I always gave freely. But like I said, I don't think I would be inclined to turn to the director and tell them that what I just saw wasn't good if I wasn't asked. And although you might have a differing opinion on what I'm about to write, I personally think doing that is a little too self-important.

re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: Kerry Butler!!

"Ballessdeer"....that's real cute, and real mature. I am also very honest, and not afraid to voice my opinion. And believe me, if I were able to meet you, and a couple of others on this board in person, I WOULD tell you a thing or two, believe me. Moving on...Jack has hit the nail on the head. It is ALL about tact, and knowing when to keep your mouth shut, and giving opinions when they are asked of you. Whether you feel your opinion is right, or justified, and ought to be said, the fact remains that, not everyone wants to hear it, and some people DON'T appreciate your "honesty", especially when it isn't warrented. You can talk about honesty all you want, but when you spend most of your time, making your rude, uninformed, judgemental "honest" remarks on a message board, that just goes to show me that you have too much time on your hands, and obviously cannot be "honest" in the real world, and in real relationships. I still can't believe that you, Namo, are still concerned with Juliana's habits when your claims, along with others have been expunged, and have been called on and corrected not only by Juliana herself, but the webmaster as well....I think you need to be "honest" with yourself and get over it.

Sincerely,
The Balladeer aka "Ballessdeer"

re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: Kerry Butler!!

The subject line (well, the initial subject line) of this thread was not what you could call an opinion. "Everyone Hates Kerry Butler!!" is not quite the same as "I Thought That Kerry Butler Was Miscast." One could easily believe from reading the initial subject line that the original poster had read all of the reviews, and that they were all negative for Ms. Butler.

She actually got quite a few good reviews (these are still very accessible via the internet). So the original subject line was not only unneccesary, in my opinion, but uninformed. But there it was in a public forum.

And do you really believe that because someone makes more money than you that gives you the right to stop caring about their feelings? How about the feelings of their family members who, perhaps, might make less money than you do? Do you care about them?

Actors don't set out to give a performance that doesn't please you. They don't deserve your malice, or your scorn. Hiding behind an anonymous identity and publicly humiliating them (yes, that's what you're doing) seems a bit excessive.

I don't work on Little Shop, by the way. But I really needed to post here because I was appalled that Ms. Butler was being treated with such disrespect.

re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: Kerry Butler!!

Yes, Ball, hi. Listen. I was nowhere NEAR the thread that was expunged. Didn't add to it, didn't contribute to it. Not a lick, not a fingerprint, not a thing. I read it before it vanished, however. But I was never a part of it, wasn't lectured by Rob. You must be confused.

But, you have just demonstrated exactly the phenomenon I was discussing. I am perceived as negative by and have been labelled "bad" and all sorts of other things by three people, and they would be Jack, Bruce Kimmel, and KA Ron Pulliam.

Fact is, I have not contributed at all to any post about Juliana in many weeks, since there was nothing I could do to convince the herd mentality (also known as The Cult of Bruce and His Merry Band of Wagon Circlers -- watch how they come out now that I have dared to actually type his name in this post) that A) I don't care about Juliana's habits, and B) I have a real interest in the cultural vibe that screws up women that she and her publisher were contributing to. BUT, since other people did post negatively about her in the subsequent weeks, it must have been me, right? RIGHT? Wrong! This just demonstrates how anybody who says something perceived as unpleasant, or not pablum, is labelled difficult. The fact that I had nothing to do with the expunged thread or any discussion of Juliana at all in many weeks is of little consequence to you and your ilk. Why let the truth stand in the way of a perfectly good scapegoating.

And Ron, I thought you guys all knew exactly who I am? Are you being disingenuous, AKA a liar?

Amen actorboy! I totally agree with you even if you aren't a fan of someone doesn't mean you have to be sooo offal to them! Even if I don't agree with them It's ridicules people are entitled to there own opinion. But being so curlew and vicious as to say everyone hates such a talented and nice person like Kerry is hirable.
I refused to post under that topic that is why I changed it last time I posted.

Kerry Butler!!

Sheekala... Maybe I am not smart enough to find it but what job do you have that allows you to talk to Debbie Allen about her work with CARRIE: The Musical and the others. I am sorry but I would never go up to someone (no matter how bad the show was) and say "YOU SUCK!" I have my opinions here as this is an opinions board and I use my OWN pictures, something I do not see you doing. But I think it is in bad taste to say "Hey Debbie, Your CARRIE sucked ass!" I mean come now. If you did that to me after I worked hard on something and you were not one of my best friends, I would probably tell you to go ^%$% off.

re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: Kerry Butler!!

Namo...Namo....Namo..... *yawn* I said nothing about not being able to express things that are not pleasant, because yes, the world is not a nice place....but one should be able to do it tactfully, and when it is required. No one wants to be around, or constantly read something from someone who is so negative. That is all that I am saying.

And not to bunch YOU into a group, but there are others on this board (yourself included) who think nothing of mercilessly bashing a performer without trying to be tasteful or constructive in their criticisms. And the funny thing is, most of the people doing the critiquing wouldn't have the balls or probably the talent to get out there and do what these actors and actresses are doing. People tend to forget about that. But I guess not everyone is the same, and not everyone treasures respect, maturity, and courtesy when commenting on other people's hard work and performances. Maybe I am a little sensitive when it comes to that department, because I know what it is to perform for an audience full of strangers, and make myself vulnerable for the sake of others' entertainment, and if there are people in the audience like yourself, abuse. But it is ok.

Yes, any professional performer that happens to read posts on this site should take comments here with a grain of salt, but why should that have to be, when a little tact, politeness, and maturity can get whatever point(s), concerns, or criticims across without being rude, and unnecessarily mean? If posters on this board really are concerned with a performance or performer, and that particular performer happens across this site, do you think they would take thread topics such as "EVERYONE hates Kerry Butler" and the people who contribute negatively to it seriously? NO. They might get offended or be hurt for a second, literally, but then they would immediately assume that the people making these comments are uninformed and unable to make an intelligent critical assessment.

Although I didn't agree with Brantley's review, I can say that his review was very well written, and done so with tact, and was done in a courteous manner. That's a whole lot more than I can say about some of the ridiculous posts in this thread.
