Actorboy et. al.:
I titled the thread the way I did not because I hate her, but because here on this message board, we talk about broadway show, performers, and our opinions.
I've seen Kerry Butler in Hairspray, Beauty and the Beast, and Bat Boy and thought she was fantastic in all of those.
Have I seen Little Shop? No I haven't.
I started this thread because I felt bad that she was being singled out in reviews, and I wanted to point it out to get people's thoughts.
Calm down and realize this is an opinion forum and post your opinion, don't bash others for starting a topic that if it was so bad, wouldn't already cover 3 pages.

I have no problem with you posting your opinion. I do have a problem with the original post for the following reasons.

A. The subject was EVERYONE hates Kerry Butler. Well...that's just not true. While she did receive some mixed to lukewarm notices, the show also got good ones from NYP, EW, WSJ, etc. So EVERYONE does not indeed hate Kerry Butler.

B. You also commented on the reviewers being right about her performance. But...you have never seen the show so how would you be able to form this opinion. This is probably what bothered me most about the post...not the thought that Kerry Butler might have her feelings hurt. If this post had been made by someone who I knew saw the show and didn't enjoy it I wouldn't have had a problem with it.

Also me thinks that the number of posts on a thread has nothing to do with the quality of the original post. Certain subject lines are bound to cause controversy and threads that have controversy tend to be viewed the most. We all love a little drama.

DavidMegg, I suggest that you re-read your orginal post. You "felt bad" and this is what you posted?

Maybe I am being "overly-sensitive." But that's better than not being sensitive at all.

There's a few of us here who agree that your subject line was offensive. And that's reason this thread has now gone to four pages. But you think that's a good thing.

It's amazing that you could post what you did and then complain that we're "bashing" you because we take offense on behalf of a performer. I feel my posts have been well-reasoned and fair (and I don't need to "calm down").

I can't understand why they decided to revive this very slight show in the first place.

It was never a great musical, just a small light entertaiment which was perfectly at home in a cosy Off Broadway theatre. What is new that has been added to this production? Increasing the band from five pieces to nine, and presenting a no name cast hardly warrants the ticket price it commands. With the reviews it has received my guess it will be gone by Christmas.

I apologize for the title of my thread.
I suppose I meant "it seems as if everyone hates...."
I wasn't gloating that I started a four page thread, I was pointing out that what occured here is what this board is all about - discussion, disagreement, and opinions. Nothing more.
I appreciate everyone's responses and regret titling it the way I did.

just build a bridge and get over being mean to anyone? Each other, the shows, the actors? There's nothing wrong with having a difference of opinion but why do we have tear the whole world apart to get our point across????

Didn’t we already go through this same thing last year/early this year for DOTV?. Same arguments and most of the same players. Just change the name of the play and the actor to an actress, add water and Presto! Instant rerun.

We're better than that. Please, let's stop now.

David, Thanks for recognizing that the title of your thread could and has been easily misinterpreted. Its easy for us all to forget that without direct human presence electronic communication can be "read" differently by every individual who might read it. Hence, misunderstandings and malintentions rear their heads. Your apology goes a long way to change one's impression of you, in my opinion.

Just to clarify, Entertainment Weekly gave the *show* a B+, however the reviewer gave Kerry what was the most scalding of her personal reviews. The reviewer actually singled her out for a good 2 paragraphs discussing just how and why she was so miscast.

Now that LSOH has opened and the reviews are out...is it safe to put the subject of Kerry Butler's performance to bed?.

This actress's ears must be tire of being in flames for weeks now. Let's give her a rest, regardless of her performance, she deserves a break.
