I am not sure what your source is that you insist is "definitely true" but I am afraid it is you that has been misinformed.
Kerry is NOT in her late thirties - simple and true.
And since you won't reveal your supposed source, I shall reveal mine..
Kerry and I went to school together...

Posted: 9/3/03 at 12:42pmNow Craig Brockman, we all know that anything that's posted anonymously and that comes from an anonymous source MUST be true. The fact that you and Kerry went to school together means NOTHING. After all, you are forty if you're a day. I know this for a fact because a friend of the guy who works with a friend I personally know said so.

Can't the Bruce ass-kissing be confined to his own site that seems to have ample space dedicated for just such endeavors? You know, the site named after one of his PSEUDONYMS. Like that label he started that was also named after one of his other ANONYMOUS INTERNET PSEUDONYMS?
Let he who is without pseudonym be the first to condemn, la vie pseudonym.

Posted: 9/3/03 at 3:01pmEXACTLY, Sheekala. I wouldn't care if she was Alice Ripley's age (40) OR 14, the fact is that, she makes a tremendous case for replacing her immediately. She truly ruins an otherwise wonderful show. Give the part back to Alice for Crissake! Kerry is completely out of her element. Some actresse's forte' is to be in a supporting role. Nothing wrong with that but it's very different to shine as Penny P. than to *helm* a much beloved show. Oh and Bruce, quit being such a hypocrite. Updated On: 9/3/03 at 03:01 PM

Duane...
I know exactly how old I am and also that Kerry has never stayed back.
As for Al Dente's opinion, everyone is entitled to one. Apparently there are a lot of people at the Virginia Theater who, so far, have had a very different opinion. To each their own...

I went to the show last night and Kerry brought down the house.
She was outstanding.
I saw the original and Kerry was just as good as the original Audrey.
I was impressed. What a voice.
Go see it and make up your own mind. Who cares Kerry's age!
She is talented that is what is important.
Many celebs were there:
Caroline Rhea and the star of Zanna Don't.

Posted: 9/3/03 at 5:26pmUm, Corine... I'm not sure how you saw the original at the Minetta Lane since it played at the ORPHEUM...but that's a side issue. Craig, if you want to show us your ID and a high school yearbook pic of you and Kerry in drama club together, I might be able to believe you. But I think that you and I both know the truth (and it HAUNTS ME). Again, I have NO issue with a woman pushing 40 playing the part. I'm just setting the record straight.

Posted: 9/3/03 at 5:32pmI beg to differ Corinne but the ONLY person who could play Audrey better than Ellen Greene is ELLEN GREENE. How can you even compare a powerhouse like Ellen Greene with her house shaking voice to a waif who is doing the WORST Mariah Carey imitation (hand waving and all) during "Suddenly Seymour"? It's an insult to Ellen.

No.. actually you are posting false information. It's interesting that you keep saying you know for a fact because of your "source" but you aren't willing to offer it up.
But whatever - I would say black and you will say white. The FACT is that Kerry is NOT in her late 30s. And, also FACT is that Kerry and I went to school together. Duane - if you are willing to send an affidavit from your source supporting YOUR "facts" - then I might believe you :)

I don't think you could forget Ellen Greene's name if you saw Ellen Greene. Maybe Corrine meant "original production" and she saw a replacement Audrey?
Corrine, do you still have the Playbill?

Craig:
First of all, why so touchy about her age? Who CARES? My info came from the DMV, so I trust it. Just how old are you and Kerry after all?
Paul Newman had a great quote about age once. Something about how it doesn't matter how old you are, but how old you... UGH. Forget it. I'm not good at remembering quotes. But I never forget a Broadway diva's AGE!

Duane-
Actually.. I DON'T care.. and if age doesn't matter, why do you make it an "issue" to point it out - or for that matter, why are you even looking Kerry's DMV record up?
But anyway, as for the DMV and other information services - they are faulty at best - especially when the information is via online means. A few friends of mine (not performers) have checked out their info prior to either buying a house, car or whatever and have notice a lot of discrepencies (DOB, City of Birth, prior addresses, etc)
But thank you for revealing your source. I honestly can't blame you for trusting the DMV (wait.. did I just say that about the DMV?!)
You're also right - what does it matter how old she is? Or how old I am for that matter. I know that I am not rounding 40, and if I was, I wouldn't have a problem with that either...
p.s. If you aren't referring to the online searches and have PERSONALLY been on a DMV computer and looked people up, well that's a whole other matter which involves more than one legal issue...

I think it was a bit more innocent, Craig however I will say this. When women *egregiously* lie about their age and to me, that's anytime they shave more than 5 years off, it does a serious disservice to the women who valiantly *try* not to.
If a woman is really in her late 20's,early 30's and is say, in the same show, movie, what have you, as a woman pushing 40, SAYING she's the same age as the non-fibbing woman, well than in order to put the *proper* age difference between them, the innocent woman then, has to lie as well.
I'm not a female or a performer, so I'm not *sensitive* to this but even so, I wouldn't want one of my co-workers, who's much older than me, pretending to be the same age, if not younger, no less.
I'm sure Renee Zellwegger was none too pleased with having to "share an age" with someone who's in her 40's. (that, being her co-star, Catherine Zeta Jones)And please don't start with the nonsense, people. If you believe CZJ is really only 33, than I've got a great big bridge to sell ya at a BARGAIN!

Al Dente - I agree with your post (surprise surprise). And I will say that I don't think you will find anywhere that Kerry has ever "revealed" her age. Many people have asked her, and many people have put in print what they believe to be her age RANGE...
I will add that it's equally bad for a woman in a show, movie, whatever to purposely "out" a persons age (or any other information) just to MAKE that distinction. In other words, I do know there are some performers that are either the same age or younger than another who make it a point to tell people exactly that - so it works both ways...
There are younger actresses that can play older, there are older that can play younger and then there are those that play right where they are....

Posted: 9/4/03 at 9:36amYes, it was very innocent. Many people in the biz have access to people's ID. I don't know how to hack the DMV's computer system! I didn't think I was starting anything by bringing up her age simply because I didn't think it was a secret. You're right, Craig--I don't think Kerry has ever said how old she is, which is exactly why I didn't think it was so controversial.

Posted: 9/4/03 at 9:40amAnd I agree with you Craig (a day full of surprises) but it starts with the press! THEY are the main culprits of this. You CANNOT open a magazine, be it US, Entertainment Weekly, Vogue..WHATEVER and not have the actor/actress/singers age IMMEDIATELY following their name! Why is that the acceptable practice? It's disturbing. It happens on most of the Bway websites as well. The only place that is polite enough to not list a *year* of birth is Broadway.com. That should be the norm, NOT the exception.

I find it particularly unappetizing that FindingNamo consistently snarls and snipes every time Bruce Kimmel posts here.
It's bad enough "Namo" is so bitchy when he posts his "observations," but when he is corrected, he gets downright ugly....
I see lots of jealousy...Bruce can post anywhere he wants, "Numbo"...just as can you.
Sad to say, though, you seem alternately nice and classless in your postings.
Perhaps that is one of the drawbacks to being "anonymous" -- gives you a sense of being able to say any lame thing that pops into your head.
Every time Bruce posts, you get positively bitchy.
WHY is that????
What's your agenda?
Why do you find it so hard to acknowledge Bruce's ability to rise like a Phoenix when his lessers flame out around him. He may get singed, but he heals...and he always comes back strong.
I think you must envy him a GREAT deal.

Where to begin, where to begin? I'm not sure who you are, or what you are asking. But let's see if I can tackle as many issues you raise as I can for you so maybe a few things can be cleared up, or at least so that you can see where I am coming from on these things.
Of course BK can post anywhere he wants. That's a given. I do believe, however, that your claim that "every time Bruce posts" I get positively bitchy is very far from the truth. Near as I can remember, I posted twice about things related to Bruce in some way, not even directly, and it brought quite a flood of invective from him.
Let's work in reverse chronology: there is obviously some contention in the Kerry Butler thread. I am a big fan of Kerry, loved her in Hairspray, talked to her after the show, told her how much I enjoyed her work and her website, found her charming and lovely. Always stuck up for her when people made fun of her website. Ask Craig, he'll tell you it's true.
The other day Bruce got all defensive in the thread where people were wondering about her age (I was not one of the people wondering about her age, please check the transcripts, I believe she is exactly as old as she and Craig say she is) and Broadwayguy chimed in with a "hehehe Bruce is funny." I responded regarding Broadwayguy's brown-nosing and mentioned that Bruce already has a website where people can post all their accolades to him and did the ass-kissing have to happen here too? (Before I ever even posted here I clicked through on the link for hhw.com and found the odd cult like messages harmless if off-putting. I mean, it really does seem to exist so people can just fawn over him. No big whoop.) It was really a dig at Broadwayguy but -- hoo! hoo! -- did it seem to strike some sort of major nerve, huh?
Well! Bruce then gets all up in arms and lumps me in with the people whom he considers Kerry bashers, when I have always been a defender. But it doesn't matter if you see any sort of discussion of something as an attack and if you assume people you have had disagreements with in the past MUST also be guilty parties in the present too, I guess. A clear-cut symptom of this phenomenon is seeing "agendas" where there really are none, at all.
The other times I interacted with BK were over the Juliana Journal. Now, I NEVER SAID she had an eating disorder, just that her food issues seemed to me pretty foregrounded in her writing and that I worried about young girls and young women who have dreams of being stars having the same old body image stuff crammed in their faces. I work closely with a non-profit eating disorder agency, but that doesn't matter. BK got up in arms again, informed me that I don't care about such things, that I was just bitter and terrible and out to destroy innocence and goodness and all that is true and all sorts of things. Well, what can I say? I raised an issue that does have meaning to me and people in my life, but I guess there's nothing I can do to convince anybody of that. That's fine, I know the truth in me.
BK then of course characterized my post as one of the many cultural injustices he simply can't stand for and I found myself wondering what Kafka-esque hell I was now finding myself in? I brought up a point that he dismissed and even Juliana later addressed it with "I am healthy" (never said she wasn't) and "I'm not sending out negative messages" (that I'm not so sure about). I guess BK is only allowed to question veracity, I dunno.
But that's about it. I don't think I ever interacted or discussed Bruce in any other way. But one does get the sense that he and his group of online fans really do see attacks and unfairness around every single corner. That's fine. But I do think you should seriously examine how the two or three BK references and minor skirmishes I have been involved with (one by merely BEING in a thread and not saying anything about Kerry's age) can be overblown by you -- Ron, I'm assuming a BK acolyte -- into me attacking him "every time he posts."
If I were you guys, I would seriously be asking some questions about group think and the cult-like dangers therein. I have to say I have no idea what you are talking about with the Phoenix rising from the ashes analogy and lessers flaming out, I am sure it is some part of the story I am thought to understand but really don't.
I hope you appreciate that I took the time to think about my answers to you, took the time to write them out and to respectfully try to explain things to you from my perspective.
"Numbo!" Good one!

Point: I did not get "defensive" in my one and only post within this thread. My post was meant humorously and was in response to Mr. Brockman's post. A simple scroll up to the top of the page is all that's needed to understand that simple fact. I don't believe I see the name "findingnamo" within my post.
Point: Someone posted (in response to my post) that they, having a reasonable sense of humor, found my post amusing.
Point: You then arrived and made the comment that the poster should take his "ass-kissing" to my site. That, in my opinion, was meant to antagonize, was meant nastily, and was unnecessary.
At no time in my original post was I addressing anyone by the name of findingnamo.
End of points and end of conversation.
