To answer the thread and not about her riffing, accent or whatever everyone is talking about I have seen Kerry 6 times when she was here on Broadway and I will say that I thoroughly enjoyed her 3 of those times. Of the 3 times I didn't care for her was her first night, one show she was REALLY sick(Katie Adams' was on as Glinda and it was Amanda Rose's first show as Nessa) and other time I really don't remember. The 3 times I did enjoy her was David Burnham's last show,Kerry's 2nd last show and her last show.
Her acting was top notch while on Broadway but she did have voice issues(I love her voice also).
No, your right. It was in her contract that she would do some time on Broadway. I am not sure if it is because Idina did it or what the reason is. However, what i am trying to say is that I feel as if it came at the wrong time considering the laundry list of problems Ellis was going through.
I saw Kerry on October 19, 2008 - mat performance.
I went into the show with zero knowledge of the actors or the show other than who was in the OBC.
My first impression of Kerry was.... "Well isn't that sweet... even people with speech impediments and lisps can star on Broadway.... this must be the understudy..."
But then once she tackled The Wizard and I.... I was blown away.
Her Defying Gravity brought me to tears from pure awe of her talent and amazing voice... and yes with riffs. It was quite embarrassing since I'm not all that an emotional person and it wasn't the story line but more just her voice. I'd never heard a voice like that... it produced a visceral response in me that I didn't expect and couldn't control.
During As Long As Your Mine with Kerry and Aaron Tveit, I felt a tad bit uncomfortable by how much chemistry those two had during that song.... it was beyond hot.

Margot Serena Pilar doesn't understand how Kerry Ellis could continue to make it on Broadway. She doesn't even speak American.
Winston89 thinks that margot serena pilar is a total tool.

"Anyone who saw her do the West End knew she put 110% into the show every night."
What? I saw a fair few performances of her in London where she looked bored.
