A recap of the pre show events.
The long line formed early (around 1:30) out side Madame Tussauds. The front was kept pretty orderly, cant speak for the rest. Around 2 they started handing out the golden tickets to meet Julie Andrews and Emma Walton Hamilton. One ticket per person entitled the holder to 2 books and 2 Cds signed.
Doors opened at 3 to Madame Tussauds which was fun. A lot of shows had booths set up in and around the exhibits. Chicago’s cast hosted a dance competition Spamalot had a hunt for the grails, Disney had makeup sessions with temporary tattoos and FREE Johnny and the Sprites demo Cds for the 1st 100 people. Hairspray had a wig fitting, Spelling Bee an opportunity to spell a word right to enter to win tickets. The Altar Boyz hosted karaoke and more. The celebrity booth was stacked nicely at the beginning including Diana Degarmo, Ashley Parker Angel, Frenchie Davis, Christian Anderson, Ann Sanders, the girls of Grey Gardens and more. It also rotated through out the afternoon. The Andrews/Hamilton part of the event was nicely organized. They stuck to the 2 book limit and recorded ticket numbers so they could not be reused. Each group or family went up to Andrews table personally and they couldn’t have been kinder signing and allowing pictures (of them, not with them). Also I noticed Andrews sign a photo of herself as Poppins for one person, so I guess the “no memorabilia” clause was not enforced.
Many local restraints offered free or discounted meals to KNOB participants and then it was off to the theatre.

I know this is semi-naive, but i'm curious as to what KNOB stands for...
Sorry if its a terribly stupid question.

We took two kids to Les Miz last night and I just have to ask (because you people seem so "in the know"... I love your board)... why would anyone cast Daphne Rubin-Vega as Fantine? She was positively painful to watch... I felt bad for her. I think most of the audience wanted to clap when she died early in the show. It is not that she has a bad voice (she was Mimi in Rent for God's sake)but it does not lend itself to that role AT ALL....
On a more positive note, the men were great... Alexander Gemignani (Valjean), Norm Lewis (Javert), and Michael Beach (Thernardier)... all outstanding. Gemignani's version of "Bring Him Home" was AMAZING (and maybe worth the ticket price in and of itself).
Having seen the original on several occasions I have to say that, overall it was a disappointing revival... the theater was entirely too small for this show and the female voices all lacked power.
It's too bad because it can be a very powerful show with the right voices!
Does anyone here know anything about The Pirate Queen... I heard it received mixed reviews in Chicago. My daughter wants to see it though, so I guess I will have to go regardless... ha ha!

A lot of people here have been asking the same question about Daphne Rubin-Vega.
And it is GARY Beach, not Michael Beach.
Sorry, don't know much about THE PIRATE QUEEN.
