So boring, so Disney-generic and forgettable, nor the slightest recreation of period or place. Strictly snoresville.

I've had the recording for a while, picked it up randomly when I saw it since it was disney broadway and honestly haven't listened to it all that much.... They've done better...
Even if it is Disney-esque, I happen to like a lot of Disney's music. Besides, I adore Roger Bart and I do quite like his song.
Is it true that Hunter Foster was in the ensemble?

I happen to like this score quite a bit. It does manage to capture period in an MGM sort of way. It does suffer from a little bit of being too big. Huge chorus, big endings, too vocally "on" all the time. "The Caravan Moves on" just keeps going and going. Those poor tenors just keep modulating higher and higher. I wonder if a commercial run would even be possible with the demands of the score on the chorus. The cast is terrific and it is one of Menken's most mature scores. I do have some fault with Rice's lyrics but only because he sometimes accents the wrong syllable of the phrase (I'm assuming he is setting his lyricfs to Menken's tunes and not visa versa).
It is a worthy effort and I hope something comes of it someday. Rice is still supposed to be working on it.
I missed it too! Any way to get it?!
anyone who claims this score is boring or snoresville are probably the same ones who ONLY like Avenue Q type musicals. Where do you people develope your musical tastes?
BTW-- I have this recording if those who appreciate this score would like it....PM me!
