Another vote for Waitress.
Kinky boots is cute, but it didn't blow me away.
I was very "meh" about going to see Waitress but I left absolutely loving it so much more than I thought I would. I listen to the cast recording all the time. I knew I had to go back and take my sister. Now I want to go back and see Betsy.

With Waitress going to either to DC or Baltimore(I can't remember which) I would wait for that. I'm not a Betsy Wolfe fan but I love Desi Oakley whom is playing Jenna on tour. So Kinky Boots
You really can't go wrong with either, but my vote would be for Kinky Boots.

Waitress is playing at the National Theatre in May. I saw Kinky Boots in July in NYC and I really enjoyed it.

Not that anyone cares, or asked, but I'm a closure freak so wanted to post one last time.
I saw Kinky Boots. I was only in NYC Tuesday - Thursday so I had three opportunities to see shows and Tuesday night was DEH. Amazing. What else is there to say that hasn't already been said?
So that left me Wednesday matinee and Wednesday night. And I wanted to see Beautiful because I sing Carole King songs and wanted to get background and backstory about the songs, etc. I really don't know much about her at all and I LOATHE the term "jukebox musical" but really really enjoyed it. I loved the friendship between Carole and Cynthia and like most people had no idea all those songs were written by those people. And Carole was amazing. I didn't realize she rejoined the cast the night before and the actress who played Cynthia (she was amazing) joined the night before as well. I am not a stage door person at all but since there were only a handful of people waiting I thought I'd stick around. It was neat seeing the actors "in the wild." The show has had it's criticisms and I suppose I understand them but I really enjoyed it. Since I was one of the youngest in the audience by at least 25 years, the audience was a bit of dud. They didn't clap when she's at the piano in the beginning until an awkward pause, and they were slow to clap during the performances of the group. That was too bad. But the show was great and I really loved it. In fact, I have thought more about Beautiful than any of the other shows I just saw.
I loved Kinky Boots too. Wow. J Garrison (is that right?) who played Lola was truly remarkable. It makes me wonder how is it possible that Billy Porter is better?? I knew the story somewhat going in but had no idea about the sons/fathers threads. That really touched me. It was a full house which is always good to see after so many years and the message was important. Be who you are. Just be.
I wanted to see Waitress but there weren't enough slots. But all the messages on the board really convinced me to give it a shot. But Beautiful only had a matinee and Waitress didn't have an evening performance so Kinky Boots was essentially decided for me. But I don't regret it at all.
Thank you all for your opinions.

Thanks for the report. I always enjoy reading reviews... especially after giving my opinion on what to see. I'm not surprised that you enjoyed Kinky Boots...I've seen it more than once. But I hope if you return, you can fit Waitress into your schedule it's worth the visit as well. Again, these are two of my favs.

Me again being once again a closure freak.
I saw Waitress at the National Theater in DC on Saturday. I know it's not Broadway and I know Katherine McPhee is amazing on Broadway but I thought the show was very well done. Very cute. Like I said before, I LOVED the movie and wasn't interested in seeing it on stage. But it's been on Broadway for while now and I thought it wouldn't be terrible.
Desi was amazing. She Used To Be Mine is truly the saddest song. I loved the humor. It was charming and lovely and no pun intended, sweet. Had a few issues with the book but who cares. I'm really glad I saw it. Talented folks in that show and I hope to see it again on Broadway.
