As part of Great Performances, at 8 PM
on PBS? Well I would rather see ALW get honored at the Kennedy Center Awards...I also hope they kept Jessica [Simpson]'s great performance in.

That was at Dolly Parton's Honors.

This is the one with Michael Berresse (currently in A Chorus Line)as Bill Calhoun, too, yes? And his incredible version of "Bianca" as he scales a three story set - while singing?
Much thanks, yankeefan, for the head's-up. I've been looking for this.
Nancy ANderson is hands down the best part of this production.

I was able to see Rachel York play the role in the second to last leg of the US tour, a mere month before she went on to the London production. I was so excited to see it filmed...it is wonderful to see her performance preserved.
I didn't diss her. I adore her. I adore everything about this production. But Anderson is better.

I'm glad PBS is reairing it. I've been wanting to see the London production for some time, but haven't found the dvd in the library.

Well I will NOT be watching the Kennedy Center honours tonight or possibly ever again. They are supposed to be honouring great Americans. ALW is NOT American, and he is certainly not great!
In fact his "contribution" to theatre has been to drag us back to the days of overblown empty-headed extravaganzas as were seen in late 19th century. To me that is not acceptable, nor worthy of any awards or honours.
KISS ME KATE is indeed woth vieweing(despite some needless mucking about with the book for this 1999 revival.) It will air on our Buffalo WNED on Sunday...at 2 AM! (Also on Sunday Dec 31 at 2 PM is a wonderful program on Frank Loesser - someone who is worthy of awards and honours - followed at 3:30 pm by a special showing highlights from Evening at Pops broadcasts devoted to Broadway including appearances by Ray Bolger adn Ethel Merman.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

Good point, give his to Jerry Herman, who I think is overdue for Kennedy Center honours.
But I'm glad PBS is airing this, its disappeared from netflix.
since i've been waiting for someone to discuss this movie (i bought the dvd) does anyone else find the switches from in front of an audience to without one irritating (particularly in scenes it switches back and forth) I don't mind seeing the mics, i acutally (since i'm secretly an audio tech junkie) enjoy seeing them, but when they alternately appear and disappear its so annoying. Also why in god's name is hattie so flat during "another op'nin.."?
other than that i love the show
I'll be watching . . .

grrrr.
I looked through every single channel twice, and nothing.
Where are you all from?
I really want to see this
Good. I'm glad I'm not the only one who finds the cameras switching annoying. Other than that I'm really enjoying it. This is my first time watching Kiss Me, Kate. Ever.

I don't know, I have very mixed feelings about this performance. After seeing the original revival cast there are just some things that can not be beat. I do like Rachel York a lot, but she is only adequate as Lili not as good as Marin Mazzie. Also, Amy Spanger totally blew me away with "Always True To You In My Fashion." While her acting is excellent Nancy Anderson's voice is only sub par. However, IMO, Brent Barrett is much better in this role than Brian Stokes Mitchell and Michael Berresse is always excellent.

Are you all in the NY area? I checked the article on Playbill and it says it says it's playing in the metropolitan NYC area... darn. I wish I could have seen it!
It was on Channel 13 - the NY/NJ based public TV station. I haven't seen this particular performance before, and I loved it! I saw this production in New York, but I was at a matinee so didn't get to see BSM as Graham. I was especially impressed with Brent Barrett - he can certainly deliver a lyric, and with Cole Porter that is the name of the game. I especially liked his delivery of "Where is the Life That Late I Led" and, of course, "So in Love." I even contributed to Channel 13's fund raising!

I think Rachel York is fantastic in this performance. Her voice is so versatile; she can switch from legit to belting to screaming back to legit without batting an eye. She is flawless.
