Posted: 6/14/04 at 12:27amYes, she started loosing her voice during Defying Gravity and basically had to speak the final part of the song. Then during intermission they made an announcement that due to illness that she would not continue and Eden would be performing Act II. There was a "Ahhhhh" across the audience but Eden quickly had them in the palm of her hand.

lol, on Broadwayworld.com, people loose many things.
As for the show....that must've been interesting...speaking Defying Gravity. So Eden got a jump start on her mini-run as Elphaba, I guess.

You can definatly lose your voice.I used to lose mine all the time (much to the delight of my family!). Whether you like Wicked or not you have to admit Idina's part is vocally pretty strenuous. I'm impressed that she doesn't lose her voice more often.
And as for Kristin, come on people, shes not always sick. This isn't Bernadette Peters we're talking about (don't get mad shes my all time fav - but she was sick A LOT). Shes been missing so many shows b/c of other projects, that everyone knew about ahead of time. And really, food poisoning? Thats not something she could do anything about.

Posted: 6/14/04 at 9:32amI believe the reference was to "loosing" a voice not "losing" a voice. I don't doubt you can lose a voice but I question how you loose one.

Bernadette was out for a short time with an illness and only was out for one or two more shows after she had gotten better.
I make no statements about actors and actresses being sick. God knows, I have called in sick before.

Posted: 6/14/04 at 2:55pmMy friend went last night and told me that idina's proformance was not that good. Also if Idina lost her voice then why did they anounce that she was leaving for health problems. That's a lie. My friend thought went they said that she maybe collapsed. It also sucks because "For Good" is such a great emotional song and with a different person playing the part in one play, well its not the same.(Not that emotional)I'm a geek.

Posted: 6/14/04 at 3:25pmUm, last I heard, voice problems could be a health problem. Several people have said she coughed through "DG", and obviously wasn't well. So, they didn't lie.

I was at the show Saturday night, and here is what happened.
Everybody was in, except for Joel Grey. Anyway, during the scene before Defying Gravity, I noticed Kristen run offstage as the wizard said "And I can help the both of you" or something like that, and Kristen was no longer there. Then, Idina ran off as she was supposed to...and she came up the stairs at the end of the stage (where the attic is.) Kristen, however, just came on from the side of the stage. So I knew something was up.
After intermission, they made the announcement that due to illness, Kristen wouldn't be finishing the show. Laura was taking her place. After the show, we were talking to Laura - she said it was food poisoning (or that's what everyone was saying) and that she was eating buffalo chicken wings when she was called in to fill in the role. At the curtain call, it was great, because Laura carried this caricature of Kristen with her.

Bernadette only missed a *fraction* of the amount of performances Kristin has missed. And Bernadette actually performed while she was sick. Very sick. So, really it was obvious she wasn't just making up an excuse to be out...she really was sick. So people can just put that one to rest.
What I want to know is...what ever happened to commitment?? If someone is going to sign a contract and commit to be in a Broadway show then shouldn't they stay committed to that? And not go planning and doing all these other projects, which in turn causes them to be out of the Broadway show.
