According to the Hollywood Reporter, Cheno is in negotiations to lend her voice to Disney's animated flick RAPUNZEL. Reese Witherspoon is also in talks as well as Jeanine Tesori (music). Might we eventually see this onstage in the next 10 years? Hmmmm
Kristin and Reese are both doing it. Reese is the speaking voice and Kristin is the singing voice.
sounds good to me. its about time disney got back to animated musicals.
I thought the report said Kristin was playing Rapunzel and Reese was playing another character, Claire.
yay for Jeanine Tesori! I loove her work!
Yeah the report did say that, Rathnait. It said Reese would be some girl that ventures into the fairy tale land or whatever.
oh, I don't know then. I'm going by Cheno's official site.
Reese reminds me so much of Kristin!!!!
Heres the story from playbill.com:
'Wicked' witch Kristin Chenoweth is up for a role as another fairy tale diva in the upcoming Walt Disney animated film "Rapunzel: Unbraided," possibly featuring songs by Caroline, or Change composer Jeanine Tesori, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The trade magazine purports that the Broadway blonde would voice the long-locked, tower beauty opposite film's "Legally Blonde" actress Reese Witherspoon. Glen Keane (supervising animator "Tarzan" and "Beauty and the Beast") is set to direct the project.
"Rapunzel: Unbraided" reportedly follows the modern-day fairy tale of a girl (Witherspoon) and boy thrown into the world of the title character filled with ogres, fairy tale characters and, yes, witches.
Chenoweth ends her reign as Glinda the Good in Wicked July 18. The actress will be seen on the big screen in the upcoming films "The Pink Panther" and "Bewitched." She has previously appeared on Broadway in Steel Pier, Epic Proportions and her Tony Award-winning turn in You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown. Her television movie turns include the ABC musicals "Annie" and "The Music Man."
Composer Tesori, who penned Broadway's Thoroughly Modern Millie and Caroline, or Change, previously worked with Disney on the yet-to-be-released sequels to "Mulan" and "Lilo and Stitch". She has also teamed with Chenoweth on the NBC series "Kristin" and the song "The Girl in 14-G" featured on her solo album, "Let Yourself Go With Rob Fisher and the Coffee Club Orchestra."

yay kristin! i can't wait!
That is interesting, but Disney must be desperate. They had announced that after the failure of their recent hand drawn ventures, they would not be making any more. Updated On: 7/14/04 at 10:43 PM
They should make the animation like the Shrek type...that would be more realistic than the Finding Nemo type animation (even though I think they are both CGI, but for some reason they look different).
Does this mean a return to the Disney animated musical?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
(where's an interrabang when you need one?!?!)

I would love to see a good Disney musical. The last good one I can think of was the Lion King which was 10 years ago.
I haven't seen one since the Lion King.
Somehow "Pocahontas" and "Mulan" did not appeal to me.
Lions are way cooler.
Go back to animals that talk and princesses in ballgowns, Disney!
Kristin is the voice and Reese is the character. Kristin doesn't have a big enough reputation to play the real role. All she is is the voice. check www.imdb.com if you want extra proof.
I think Kristin should just do the whole thing, since there's like no difference between her and Reese Witherspoon's speaking voices. but whatever.
Darn!
Sadness for Kristin.
But I guess that means the character is singing!!!!
YAY!!!!

I'm not sure if everyone has moved on from this topic yet, but I just read on Kristin's website in an interview she gave that she will be playing an actual character in the movie.
Inteviewer: Now this is something different. There have been reports about Disney pegging you for a future animated feature surrounding the fairy tale character, Rapunzel?

That's right - but no one knows much about the story since I don't think they've even finished writing it. It's called Rapunzel Unbraided, and my character will play opposite Reese Witherspoon's character, and they both end up meeting in the fairy tale land.

Flowrey, how did you not love Mulan? That was my favorite! So Cheno is Rapunzel and Reese is another character? That suprises me, I'dve thought that they would give the star the bigger role.

Well Kristin didn't say which character she'd be playing, just that her character and Reese Witherspoon's characters meet up in fairytale land. Reese may very well be playing Rapunzel.
Insomniak, I didn't say I didn't love it.
I said I never saw it.
It just didn't look very enticing.
If you get a chance FF, see "Mulan," it is my ALL TIME favorite Disney movie by far. Great story, great music, Lea Salonga, I think it'd make an amazing Broadway show if Disney did it right.
