I have to say I did find it interesting Kristin said that considering Idina would be in the same boat as she is in dealing with the movie...I don't think she directly meant to bash Idina, but I think indirectly she made it clear, she doesn't care to work with her again if she comes back to WICKED.

Stephen Scwartz came to my highschool a few months ago and talked to the theatre kids because we were doing Children of Eden and he was saying that if they were going to even make a Wicked movie it wouldn't be for about 10 years.

I'm sorry but I find the Whiz (and yes, I spelt it that way intentionally)barfworthy. But I will defend with my life
anyone's view that it's fantastic.
I should post a voice post next time allofmylife, because I keep forgetting that sarcasim is lost on message boards.
I don't think Kristin should be so confident in getting the role. I can clearly see the role going to Reese Witherspoon, since she played basically the same part in Legally Blonde, is a huge box office draw, and has demonstrated the ability to sing in Walk the Line.
Sing, yes. Sing as good as Kristin Chenowerth? Hardly.
sorry, i should have clarified my message. Of course she can't sing as well as Kristin, but she is a million times more marketable. I just meant that she "can" sing.

Yes, a lot of the Magic of "Wicked" is being on stage.
But look what it's based on!
"The Wizard of Oz" started as a book- then it was a Broadway musical, then a movie.
Who's to Say Wicked won't be the same?
It could do well as a movie in my opinion
I work in the film business and I can almost guarantee you we will screw it up. It seems to be our mission.

I think to make a credible movie they have to go back to the book and forget the musical. Don't get me wrong, it's a nice musical, but it has about as much relevance to the meaning if the book as "CATS" has to Darwin's theory of evolution!!
To make a GOOD movie they should start from scratch. No singing, just a straight adaptation. Have Jennifer Connolly (maybe anyway, though we could do better) as Elphaba and Reese Witherspoon as Glinda, Terry Gilliam or Tim Burton to direct...
But they won't. As the other guy says, they'll screw it up. Get Christopher 'don't-ask-me-about-style-just-tell-me-which-way-to-point-the-camera' Columbus to do his usual. Add extra cheese to the already slightly cheesy Schwartz blend, put in some fluffy actresses who can sing and can't act, and make themselves a d**n fortune.
Sigh...it was ever thus

allofmylife-that was a hilarious comment! :)
Thanks Sparklesss. And Babanna Bear, you have accidentally begun to think exactly like a Hollywood weasel,er.... production executive. Tim Burton would be the kiss of death for the project that we all want to see based on the original book. Look at his films. After the first half hour, he forgets there IS a script and goes off on wild flights of fancy. Story be damned. And as for Terry Gilliam... practically unbankable. His films lose far far more money than they gross. Don't trust your favorite story to him. No matter how visionary.
And casting> You're going Hollywood again. Jennifer and Reese are wonderful actors, but at LEAST a decade too old. They are married women with children and it shows in the close-ups. (I know that sounds terrible but the recent movie of Rent had a cast that looked at least a decade too old. It looked ridiculous).
I'd say you have to find new talent or up-and-comings to play the roles. Just som musings.........

That's good, wait awhile and I'll be able to work on it :) Although I'm not a huge supporter of it being turned into a movie.
