I know lately people have been discussing if Kristin would do a movie version or ever come back to WICKED...and if you look at the interivew posted under: Chenoweth CHUD.com interview (for RV)
she answers a lot of that point blank :) it seems diff. than what we had been hearing...

Hahaha Alanis Morisette as Elphaba....
I know you are all thinking that...but if you hear some stuff she sings as far as broadway goes...she sounds okay...She sang on the soundtrack of 'DeLovely' in the song "Let's Fall in Love" she was very nice. I can kind of see her as Elphaba.

Wicked...movie... AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not that I don't like the show, but I'm the "Broadway Geek" at my high school so everyone who knows the songs in Rent and Wicked have me sing with them. I like these shows but I'm growing tired....

If they decide to do a Wicked movie now, it'll take at least three years to start filming. How old will she be by then?

She's always said they'd have to pay her off if they don't use her in the film.
And look - an actual link to the interview!

I love how she disses Producers and RENT..lol
Do you all think that Wicked the movie would do as well as Chicago?

"Do you all think that Wicked the movie would do as well as Chicago?"
Uh, no.
Chicago had the luxury in that it was a good piece of musical theatre before it was made into a film. Wicked is merely passable. Part of what is so appealing about Wicked is the spectacle, that would be lost on film. I really think a Wicked film is an absolutely horrendous idea.
Agreed colleen_lee - Wicked looks amazing on stage, and I really think it would be less impressive on camera as they'll just use the CGI stuff for all the effects - the effects on stage, although by now we all know how they're done, still leave me mesmirized. Wicked can continue playing on broadway as long as it wants, but we don't need a film any time soon.

I've heard a lot of people with your opinion Colleen_Lee, but I've always thought that the musical would lend itself to film very well. I'm not talking about the quality of the work itself, I'm just saying that I think the material would transfer well to film.
And maybe Elphaba could actually fly on her broom onscreen, rather than just being hoisted straight up.
I think the film could be a success. It's certainly one of those shows that everyone seems to have seen, including a whole slew of non-theatre people. Of course, the same could be said for Phantom and that movie tanked. I think it's chance of success probably hinge on getting it out there some time in the near future. By the time the Phantom movie came out, I think the general population was over it.
It should be animated - then Idina and Cheno can play the roles until they are 65 (next year).
I liked the Phantom movie to be honest...i wouldn't mind a WICKED movie but I'd be really scared they'd ruin it...I'd almost rather them not risk it...
Since Wicked is Produced by Universal they are going to milk it for all it's worth on Broadway. They won't even think about a film version until the ticket sales start to drop off, which doesn't look like it will happen anytime soon. So those of you that are anti-wicked need not worry about it right now.
Being someone in film I think that, if done correctly, Wicked can be a very good movie. They would need a really good director with a good eye for special effects to make it work though. If and when they do produce the movie I would like to see them combine the musical with more elements from the book, not make a carbon copy of the show like th producers did.

Micheal,
An animated version of Wicked sounds intersting...I know you were joking, but I would be interested in seeing that! I think (not all the way sure though) that there is someone who tried to make an animated version of it, but they couldn't because of copyright stuff.
There is definetly going to be a movie version. Heck Universal has the rights. That would be great if Alanis was in it. I like the Rent, Producer disses. Producers was a piece of garbage. It would be cool if Chris Colombus directed Wicked.
OH Universal will definately make the movie I have no doubt, but it wont be for a while. They are being smart about it. They are going to wait until the ticket sales start to slip and then use the movie to boost the sales back up again.
It would also be cool if Chris Columbus never "directed" another musical adaptation again.
I agree I think Christopher Columbus definately should not direct Wicked.
That would be SO cool to have a movie of Wicked...I agree it wouldn't be as effective but it would help get all these kids and people more interested in Bway lol. To me, I think Kristin Chenoweth was amazing as Galinda and noone else could be as good as her.

Sparklesss...I agree with you COMPLETELY about Wicked. I would be DEVASTATED if they ruined it. It's a scary thought. But at the same time, if it were good wouldn't it be awesome to OWN it and be able to watch Wicked WHENEVER YOU WANTED?! But it just has to be Idina and Kristen. That's just the way it has to be. Has Idina said anything about it?
and also...the phantom movie was horrible, but only because of the cast. It would have been good if Gerald Butler could sing, I think that's kind of important for a musical. But hey what do i know?

ok, i already wrote something...but question...WHY WOULD KRISTEN SAY THAT, does she not want to do it with Idina? Why would she even mention some one else. I'm very mad. And Alanis Morisette would be NO WHERE near as good as any of the Elphabas as of yet. grrr.
and also, what does she have against Rent? I loved the movie. She's just completely bashing Idina.
Kristin may not like Idina, but I don't think the remarks were meant as slams to her personally.
First of all, by the time they make a movie of Wicked, the original stars' KIDS will be able to play the leads. And let's hope that Universal DOESN'T make a movie. Does anyone remember "The Wiz?" Gee willikers, Toto. That was flyin' monkey crap.
What do you mean allofmylife? The Wiz was amazing! Casting someone who's voice was not cut out to sing the vocals, and then casting Michael Jackson as the scarecrow. When I grow up I want to make amazing movies like The Wiz!
Bring on Wicked: The Movie Musical, but only if it stars little people in all the roles.
well... it could be worse.. Universal intially sought to create a television movie based on the book. I think the film will translate perfectly.
