Does anyone happen to know when Kyra DaCosta left Sweet Charity? I saw the show again tonight and Anika Ellis is now playing Helene, but I didn't realize that Kyra was leaving the cast.

I'm surprised it wasn't announced on Broadway.com or something. They usually announce those things.

Me too! I hadn't read my Playbill before the start of the show (I only scanned for those pesky little slips), and when "Big Spender" began, I said to myself, "That's not Kyra DaCosta! And there was no slip and no announcement!" Then I checked the Playbill and Kyra's name was nowhere to be seen.

Sure she left? She might just be on vacation...it might just be behind, but the official site says Kyra is still playing the role Anika is the u/s.

I heard somewhere that if an actor is out for an extended time (ie vacations) that the person who will perform the role during the absence will get printed as the regular in the playbill since playbills get printed every week or so. I'm not sure how true that is, but it kinda makes sense so that they dont have to keep cutting and inserting those little papers.

That is what they do for tours. If it is a scheduled vacation, they list the understudy in the playbill as if she plays role.

I LOVE this woman, I will be really upset if she's out of the show.

I wont be as upset if she left for something like THE COLOR PURPLE.

Well, I hope it's just a vacation. Because I want to see her again in the show. What a TALENT!

Oh, that's true. It might be a vacation. But in some respects, I think Anika Ellis was a tad bit more entertaining than Kyra DaCosta.

Charity does that, Tyler Hannes left the show fro a week and the playbills had him ommitted....i guess they just want their swings and understudies to feel special!

If the principals are not out sick, then technically, the understudies are the leads that week. As nothing to do with making people feel special.

Tyler Hanes isn't a lead; he's in the ensemble. I think it's odd that they removed him for the week that he was out. I don't think I've heard of a show doing that for an ensemble member. It makes sense, though.

Well with CHICAGO they use the slips in the playbill, they don't take someone out. I would think this is the producers choice, right. Because the Weissler's produce both shows. And when understudy Michelle DeJean took over for Charlotte d'Amboise as Roxie for a little more than a month while Charlotte was busy with Charity - Michelle was in the playbill as Roxie, and got the proper Roxie first billing. It was great.

And one thing about the Weissler's. They change their ensemble members very often. The CHICAGO ensemble can literally change in a week, not the whole ensemble - but they never have a set ensemble - a lot of CHICAGO favorites usually come in and out of the ensemble frequently. So don't be suprised if you see CHARITY ensemble changes.

Kyra is on vacation, I was there last Sunday and castg members at the stagedoor were telling her to enjoy her vacation.

Ljay, Tyler went on Vacation and they changed the playbill, the guy at the stagedoor told the woman next to me that he was on vacation and she was pissed because she came all the way from minnisota to see him

Did Anika Ellis leave Sweet Charity? Her name is no longer amongst the cast members listed at the Playbill.com website although it IS still listed at the Official Sweet Charity website.

If she did leave the cast, the first thing I thought is that it might be for a role in The Color Purple. Any gossip?

Yeah, I was sooo exited to see Anika, but I got to theater I found out that her last show was the week before. I waited all summer to finally get to see her go on, but was a week late. I don't know who the new u/s will be, but I hope it's someone deserving. There is a lot of undiscovered talent out there, and I would love for someone new to get a chance, even if it's the u/s.

I think I'll try . . . defying gravity.
