Yes, I know that's how things went down as well through a firsthand witness. It's really not cool. I just feel if the producing/directing team wasn't so slimy, they would give the performers some notice.

My issue is not so much with the fact that they were fired, but how it all went down. It's just trashy in my opinion.

And if they are indeed miscast (too young, too pretty, too short) then the fault lies with the director who should have discovered these things through auditions. If it was that they were superior performers to the leading lady and walking away with reviews that should be hers, then it is up to the director to fix that or the writers to make changes to their roles. Being too strong a performer is no reason for someone to lose a job...that's ridiculous if it is in fact the reasoning. I just think it all reeks of patching up a leaking damn with paper towels.

How sad for the performers, yet I see nothing "slimy" about the way it was handled.

I work in a retail corporate environment where we came in on a Tuesday and watched as half our co-workers were asked to come in to their managers office, then fired and made to pack up and get out in an hour. It's a management decision. It's a business. The show is a business. There is no "good" way to fire employees, performers, whatever.

It's not slimy, nor underhanded. And if they had heard rumors swirling for weeks, then they should have been prepared or at least not surprised.

I agree Justme. SWEET CHARITY has undergone a lot of changes since it started rehearsals. It is certainly in their right for the producers and director to make casting changes for any reason they see fit. Its a business. And there is no easy way to handle a firing. Somebody is always the villan.
