With music by Jule Stein, book by Garson Kanin and Lyrics by Comden and Green, Do Re Mi ran for 400 performances on Broadway in the early 60s. Phil Silvers, Nancy Walker, and Nancy Dussault were among the stars, and the song Make Someone Happy remains a popular standard. The show was revived by Encores in New York in 1999 starring Nathan Lane, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Heather Headley, and Randy Graff.
Now, Angelinos who can make it to Glendale this coming Monday at 7:30 will get a chance to see it performed as a concert staged reading (costumes, orchestra, blocking, but script in hand) by the fabulous Musical Theater Guild, who did the AMAZING Lippa Wild Party a few months back.
I bought my 1/2 price ticket last month. I just checked and there are still 8 more being offered by Gold Star Events. Unlike other MTG shows, this one is not scheduled to be repeated in Long Beach or Thousand Oaks, so Monday should be your one chance to see it.
Below you'll info from the MTG website about this production, and I've attached a link if you want 1/2 price tickets. (If you're not registered at Gold Star, you need to but it's very easy to do.)
Hope I see you there,
Steven :)

eslgr8,
Good for you. I am sure you will LOVE IT. Like you always do.
Dame, you always make me feel I have to defend myself, so here goes. Just last Friday I saw a show I didn't love. Stew Rice, at East West Players. I also saw a mediocre The Front Page at Sierra Madre Playhouse. Yawn. And I didn't much care for the avant garde Big Love at The Chance Theater in Anaheim, which I also saw last month. But yes, I do think that I will really enjoy MTG's Do Re Mi. I have both CDs, and and it will surely be a pleasure just to hear the Stein/Comden/Green songs sung live. Plus, there are some wonderful people in the cast and Cate Caplan is an excellent choreographer. So I'm betting it will be a better than average night of theater.
Dear Elphaba, EVERYONE within driving distance is ABSOLUTELY ENCOURAGED to attend! Since I live in Alhambra, I'm only L.A. adjacent, and I'm going. Plus the show is in Glendale (an entirely different city)! In fact, I'd encourage anyone with money for a plane ticket to hop on the red eye to catch this one. LOL :)
No one in LA can read your message right now anyway.
yeah we can, I didn't loose one second of power.... sigh.
Thanks for the info elsgr8!
elsgr8!,
I don't intend to make you feel like you should always defend yourself. I find your passion and love for the shows you enjoy refreshing. In a way I am jealous because I guess something in me has made me so freaking jaded that I find that a lot of shows people love I find mediocre. Still not sure if it is me or the shows. Believe me.. when I spend my money I would much rather love something than be dissapointed by it.
