This is directly from playbill.com: "Nederlander said that discussions continue for a possible cast album for the production, which includes some new material by composer-lyricist Herman (listen to the frisky counterpoint sung in "With Anne on My Arm" in Act One)."

Posted: 5/31/05 at 11:50amI know it will be expensive to produce, but why are things like "Lone Star Love" and the "After the Ball" revival getting recordings over a new La Cage disc, which I am sure, would sell fairly well.

Posted: 5/31/05 at 11:55amI would think Goulet's name would get someone to record it. But yes, a shame Davis can't record his beautifully sung performance.

Posted: 5/31/05 at 11:56amWill they bring Daniel Davis back for it? The day has not yet come that will see me buy a recording featuring Robert Goulet.

Posted: 5/31/05 at 12:06pmThey should just let this production die. It shouldn't be remembered or preserved in any way, shape, or form.

Posted: 5/31/05 at 12:10pmI would buy the revival with Daniel Davis but I think it would be a horror to record this show with Goulet. Yuck!!!!!

Posted: 5/31/05 at 12:10pmCareful with that comment. It doesn't have much credibility with a Sweet Charity avatar next to it.

Posted: 5/31/05 at 12:14pmRegardless of what avatar I have, my comment is as credible as anyone else's comment in this thread. And just because you seem concerned, I don't really like SWEET CHARITY - I like Applegate.

"They should just let this production die. It shouldn't be remembered or preserved in any way, shape, or form."
some might feel the same way about Applegate's performance.

Posted: 5/31/05 at 12:25pmI found many more redeeming things in La Cage than in Applegate’s gusto, but underwhelming performance.

Posted: 5/31/05 at 12:43pmno one can have any more or less credible opinions based on their avatar or member name. that's deciduous. would it be okay if I decided I don't like COMPANY and therefor your opinions are biased and unvalued? it falls under a bit of sub-human discrimination does it not?

The seriousness at which things are taken here is amazing.
I was just saying, perhaps a little tongue in cheek, that bashing La Cage with an obvious love for an equally inferior, if not moreso revival, may make someone look less than credible. For example, praising Good Vibrations but hating Piazza doesn't bode well for your opinion being taken seriously, as valid as it may be.

Posted: 5/31/05 at 12:49pmIs Robert Goulet really that bad in the show? I saw a clip of him singing "Song on the Sand" in the Broadway.com feature about Gary Beach's dressing room and he was good in those ten seconds.

Posted: 5/31/05 at 12:52pmHe has gotten good praise for the show. In most people's opinions, better than expected.

Certainly better than he deserved , especially considering that almost every review mentioned that he struggled with his lines - forgetting some - couldn't move well, didn't act but played himself and in general was too old for the part.

Posted: 5/31/05 at 1:09pmI hear Goulet is passable...when he remembers his lines and the lyrics to the songs.

Posted: 5/31/05 at 2:03pmHey guys, you have to remember Goulet is up there in years. He is no spring chicken. I remember him when I was a kid and I am no spring chicken either. I was disappointed because I really wanted to see Daniel Davis in the part, but Goulet has a beautiful singing voice and I only saw him flub once. He was quite entertaining. Horray for Goulet. I give him a lot of credit for doing the show at his age.

Posted: 5/31/05 at 2:07pmWould this qualify as an original Broadway cast recording if Goulet were to be recorded? He is a replacement. Any Equity legal experts out there know what the implications of an OBCR that uses a replacement cast member instead of the original?
#21re: LA CAGE CAST RECORDING UPDATE
Posted: 5/31/05 at 2:15pm*I think* they just have to call it "the New Broadway cast recording" or the 2005 Broadway cast regording and refrain from using the word "original". then it's all fine... Updated On: 5/31/05 at 02:15 PM
#22re: LA CAGE CAST RECORDING UPDATE
Posted: 5/31/05 at 2:15pmBut it would never be an OBCR, as it's a revival. I am sure, they would call it "The New Broadway Cast Recording"

This CD will happen...The Producers are biding their time now and waiting for a Tony Win.
Goulet would be on the recording and it would be the Revival Broadway Cast Recording. Goulet sounds like a million dollars and is lovely and winning in the role.
The show is in wonderful shape and prepared to do their Title Number at the Tonys & I FOR ONE CANNOT WAIT TO BE THERE AND SEE IT! YAY!
