They had some nice things to say about Laura Bell Bundy, but in all, were not very impressed with the show. As someone who lived through the 80's and its music, all I can ask is what where the producers thinking?

"Sorry to say, but "Rock of Ages" lowers the bar, story-wise, for the jukebox musical, which is really saying something given the Broadway car wrecks of the past few seasons. As with "Mamma Mia!," the ABBA extravaganza that boosted the genre with its billion-dollar-and-climbing worldwide box office, the action is merely a pretext for another karaoke-inducing hit."

I'm seeing it on Thursday. I'm not expecting a great show, but I do look forward to seeing Laura Bell Bundy and hearing the 80s music.

I'm sure plenty of people will go "undercover" to see the show as a guilty pleasure. I don't think I'll find time to go as my schedule is already pretty full, but I am sure it will be a fun "guilty pleasure".

"It does what a musical is supposed to do; it takes you to another world. And it gives you a little tune to carry in your head. Something to take you away from the dreary horrors of the real world. A little something for when you're feeling blue. You know?"
