I saw it tonight too!! I completely agree! Celia was AMAZING! I'm so glad it's extending. Th whole cast is just wonderful and I like most of the changes, although I'm not completely sold on the new orchestrations in certain places.
edit: There are selling merchendise, by the way. The only new things I saw (aside from the cds that you can get off amazon.com) were t-shirts and program.

While I had the same "Wow, surprise..." expression some people on here have had, the people who are saying "Dear God, why?" need to shut the hell up. When there's crap like "High Fidelity" closing after two weeks, I think Broadway can certainly stand another couple months of Les Miz. It blows me away that I can read people's responces who post 1000x more often than I do, and they're always bitchy... Cheer Up, it's the f***ing holidays!

I love this show, most definately my favorite musical. However, this revival does such injustice to it. None of the performances have any passion. It seems as if John Caird pulled a Bob Avian and spent so much time telling the cast what their exact staging is (which is taken from the original production) that he forgot to work with them on character development. I'd rather not have this revival on right now.
But like so many others have said, it's not like we didn't see this coming.

EverythingIsRENT, I also never saw the original Broadway production. I have been in love with this show for about a year, and the first chance I got to see it live was when this revival opened. I, too, cannot imagine this show being any more amazing than the revival was! Every performer, IMO, was perfect for the part, and I hope it extends far into the future so I can see it again and again!
But, as I said in a previous post, as long as its opened long enough for (a) a cast recording to be made (b) me to see it again, I really don't care what happens after that...

I'm certainly not surprised but I must admit I was hoping it would have to close for one reason. I don't want producers to think it is ok to cut the cast and the orchestra in half and pass it of as the same show. I miss the Broadway production of the show which I will always remember as my favorite show.
I blame George Bush for all of this.......

I too never got around to seeing
Le Mis the first time around.
So when I finally saw the show
this year, I am completely blown
away. Not to mention the special
treat for me is two of my favorite
stage actors Alex and Aaron in the
revival, OMG, this is truly a dream
for me. I love these two amazingly
talented men. I have always felt
they were both underated.
So nice they are in this production and
it will succeed. I just feel it!

I have been disappointed by the cold reception this revival has gotten here, by some people, ever since the revival was announced. I am trying to understand your points, why New Yorkers might get bored having the same shows on Broadway year after year and the desire for new shows. There are at least two shows I think deserve a chance to shine on Broadway, "Yoduk Story" and "Lord of the Rings." Still, I believe in the free market and if the producers and investors are still making money, more power to them.
Also, I have come to accept the fact that there will probably not be a cast recording, though if they can get Lea Salonga as the replacement Fantine, I would like to have a recording with her as Fantine. Having her in the cast would make me more eager to buy a recording.

Maybe they were having an off night, but I saw Les Mis on Monday, and it was the second worst thing I have seen on Broadway out of the 30 somethings show I have seen.
It sounds, looks, and feels like they watched a bootleg video of the 1999 Toronto tour, and that served as their director. They sang the write notes, they moved to the right places, but it never really jelled into a good production. It was nearly completing lacking any HEART or PASSION. Something that is ESSENTIAL to a show, that is not terribly well written.
I kept on forgetting I was watching a Broadway show.
Grandted, there were some great performances, mainly Galloway, Lazar, Lewis, some great acting from Bolger.
It was a Monday, and they were tired. Talking to Bolger after, she said the cast was really tired, as Sir Money Grabber Mackintosh has them on a hellish Christmas Performance Schedule, and that's understandable, but for the whole show it be in such poor condition is not exceptable for Broadway.

Personally, I think I have too much bloom.

Yay! Jacob stays in NYC longerr!
Haha I know this little boy Jacob in it but he lives in NJ so it's so much easier to see him while he's staying in NY.
