re: LIZA - free concert in Brooklyn tonight at 7:30!

I am assuming this is Ms. Minnelli if you're nasty?
"Whenever I get gloomy with the state of the world, I think about the arrivals gate at Heathrow Airport. General opinion's starting to make out that we live in a world of hatred and greed, but I don't see that. It seems to me that love is everywhere. Often it's not particularly dignified or newsworthy, but it's always there - fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, old friends. When the planes hit the Twin Towers, as far as I know none of the phone calls from the people on board were messages of hate or revenge - they were all messages of love. If you look for it, I've got a sneaky feeling you'll find that love actually is all around."

I am debating whether or not to go...

It is SUCH a long train-ride out there, and frankly, Coney Island is dirty... I can't imagine what the crowds'll be like... But it IS Liza, afterall!!!

re: LIZA - free concert in Brooklyn tonight at 7:30!

I hate writing reviews, cuz I feel like I'm just rambling.

I'll try.......

Her opening act, Christopher Cross, was a bore. But how can you not be antsy when you're waiting for MINNELLI to take the stage.

She was a little bit of a mess. She came out in a short, short white sequin outfit. She started Ring Them Bells, got all the way to the end, then messed up, stopped the song, and picked up where she had messed up. The audience was LOVING her though, as was I. It was Liza, we kinda expected it to be a mess. Which is sad.

We were discussing on the train ride back....if Liza keeps up at the pace she's going, she won't have much time. The bf seems to think she should stop performing as much so that she could live a longer life, but I think that if she stopped performing in any capacity, she'd be miserable. I think she'd rather die this way than to stop performing.

Anyways, mid-show, she changed into a red sequin pantsuit. She was looking good. Her legs especially!!

Hmmm. I was told she didn't sing ring them bells.. and those pics are very similar to the ones from when she played there 4 years ago.

I'm forgetting two or three songs, I think, but I know she sang:

Teach Me Tonight
The Man I Love
Sara Lee
So What?
My Own Best Friend
Maybe This Time
He's Funny That Way
Ring Them Bells
You've Let Yourself Go
What Did I Have That I Don't Have?
Cabaret

And Billy Stritch sang a song too. Liza decided she didn't want to sing at one point, and he did a song.

She also sang a song about her band. My Band maybe? Not sure.

Here are some professional photos of the concert from WENN. I wish they'd gotten the red outfit.

Oh.. and it does look the same as when she played there 4 years ago.. except she looks about 60 pounds lighter. And I must have had too much to drink since I remeber her opening with "I can see clearly now" and for the life if of me... there was no "ring them bells".

she definitely opened with "Teach Me Tonight." Here's video of that: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1U8Mn1gf4TU (I didn't film that, I just found it on youtube)

And she definitely did "Ring Them Bells." That's why she had those glasses in that photo. It was even at the audience's request, sort of. The band played the into to "Ring Them Bells" and everyone applauded. Then Liza ran back to Billy and they exchanged words. Then Liza turned to the audience and asked into the microphone, "What do you wanna hear: 'Ring Them Bells' or [some other song title...I can't remember]?" Everyone screamed at her, and she was like, "alright, I guess we're gonna do Ring Them Bells." So they restarted the number.

Everyone clapped along to that song the whole time, which was difficult because she changed the tempo drastically and randomly with almost every phase. During the bell noises, everyone around me was shaking their keys.
