LSOH review 4/30 in Baltimore

I saw Little Shop of Horrors last night at the Hippodrome and overall i loved it! i had first row seats, PIT 115. those are my favorite because you are SO up close and you can see every fatial expression and everything from the performers. I saw it on broadway last march. The only understudy was for Crystal, who was played by Amina Robinson i think her name was...it wasnt listed in the program, i wonder why? She and the other two girls are my favorite characters in the show, they had sooo much energy and amazing voices that put the people on american idol to shame. Tari Kelly as Audrey really worked for me, she is vocally the best Audrey i've heard and was a great actress too. Her look didnt really fit what i picture as audrey, i thought kerry butler looked more the part. But her Tari's voice made up for it. Ray Demattis was a great Mushnik, they obviously chose a different look than the one on broadway, he was a smaller, balding skinny man...he was really funny and really worked in the role. James Moye as dentist/everyone else i thought was good too, he didnt blow me away but he was fine. Sometimes with the wigs he was wearing he looked just like Dave Coulier from Full House! thats what i thought at least. My only complaint is jonathan rayson as seymour. i didnt enjoy his performance at all. it always sounded like he was putting on a voice, and whenever he dropped it it just seemed out of character. His songs were oohhhkayy...nothing to remember. also in act 2 when he had his hair gelled, he looked really old. maybe it was just me in the first row that thought that, but whatever. Overall though, it was a great show! its one of my favorites.

I love Tari Kelly in the role, I thought she was great. She managed to honor the original but put her own spin on it. I think Butler was woefully miscast. They fired La Ripley for her? Ugh.

Has anyone seen Tari Kelly's understudy, Yvette Lawrence, as Audrey? Has she even gone on during the tour? I've heard absolutely nothing about her.

I liked Ray DeMattis when I saw him on Broadway, but he seemed bored when I saw him in the tour on the 23rd. I wasn't a fan of James Moye and I thought Jonathan Rayson was just okay. I loved Tari Kelly and the girls, though!

This was the Best Musical Revival of the year and one of the best revivals Ive seen in a long time. The Bway production was phenomenal. I miss it

when did lenny wolpe leave? he was a fantastic mushnik, and i have personal issues with demattis. I would not be all that suprised if yvette lawrence has not gone on, when i talked to james alexander (audrey II u/s) he told me he's gone on once in the year he's been in the show.
"Grease," the fourth revival of the season, is the worst show in the history of theater and represents an unparalleled assault on Western civilization and its values. - Michael Reidel
