I think of all the demo songs - this would have been a nice contribution to the show.
Why didn't it work out?
I think it was written for the movie, right? And it was written because the ending was changed for the movie, right? I am not being a jerk with those "rights?" I just want to make sure what I am typing is true, right?
Bad was written for the movie. Seems they made Little Shop with it's original ending and test audiences of teens didn't like the fact that everyone died. So, almost a year after the completion of principle filming cast and crew were called back to England to reshoot Bad (Mean Green Mother from Outer Space) much to he chagrin of Ellen Green and Marty Robinson and many others who thought that the new ending watered down the moralistic tale of the story. The movie now says, "It is ok to kill people for personal gain as long as you say your sorry. You, even if you destroy those around you can acheive your hearts desire""
There are rare DVD's out there with the original ending as an added feature. Geffin didn't want that on the DVD so he had them pulled.
Actually, if I'm not mistaken (which I often am) "Mean Green Mother" was written for the movie and "Bad" was written for the original stage production, but was cut before the show opened off-bway. I think the cutting had something to do with the fact that Audrey II's mouth couldn't move that fast.
Anyone care to agree, elaborate, correct...?
Love,
Joshie
I'm pretty sure you're right, Joshie. Hooray for you.

Like, I said.......what I typed might not be true.
Does anyone know where you can get the original ending on DVD? I have bought a couple of the different DVD's hoping that the original end was on it, but only one showed a brief clip. I would LOVE to see the original ending, as I too, was one of those that were upset that they gave the show a "happy" ending.
IT'S A GREEK TRAGEDY, FOLKS. PEOPLE ARE GONNA DIE!
:)
Thanks in advance for any info!
Yes, hooray for me!!!
Also, Diva, you should try looking on ebay. That's where most copies are obtained; though they may be a smidge pricey.

No. "Bad" was, in fact, written for the FILM, not the original stage production. The voice of Audrey II in the recording of "Bad" is Ron Taylor from the original stage production. I believe the packaging and/or liner notes in the New Broadway Cast Recording of LITTLE SHOP even says it is originally from the film. Amazon.com says the same thing as well.
