re: La Cage Aux Folles

I know that later in the run the wig would be flown out on purpose at random performances!

re: La Cage Aux Folles

The original Broadway production had 12 Cagelle (10 guys & 2 girls), the First National,Australian and West End productions reduced this to 10 (8 guys & 2 girls). The current London production has 8 (?), soon we will be down to 3 or less!

re: La Cage Aux Folles

Going off that footage i'd take the current ones over them anytime. Costumes just reminded me of smalltown gaybar sunday afternoon drag shows.

we went to see the current production last week, buying tickets at the last minute from tkts. to be honset we had decided against it when planing the trip, purely because we didn't fancy Norton in it.

However, absolutely loved it, brilliant fresh lively production, and norton was fab! No asides to the audience as himself, just stayed in character all the way through. It's hardly a case of a new musical theatre star is born, his voice isn't the best for a start. but certainly a great match of performer to character. i just hope he sticks to what he said about having no interest in other musical roles though. i definitely think this should be a one time deal.

Love that original production- but this new production is what it is and should be judged on its own terms. For me, both succeed at what they intend!

re: La Cage Aux Folles

Am going to the show a week in a fortnight, so will report back then. Norton is scheduled to be on (checked the website).

Also, does anyone know why the hell the 2006 Broadway Revival was never recorded? I am watching Gary Beach's performance as we speak, and I for one would have paid a fair amount of money for a cast recording.

re: La Cage Aux Folles

It was abysmal. Truly dire- how I got myself back in for act 2 i dont know?
The show was just so cold and simply staged for the masses. There was no heard and Gary Beach gave one of the ugliest performances I have ever seen.
Yea it looks spectacular but thats it!

:-O I'm only up to I Am What I Am, which I was impressed by, but maybe I'm missing something.

It does look amazing I admit (the sets, costumes and of course Gavin Creel)

Doesn't Dennis Quilley look F-A-B-U-L-O-U-S in that clip? I'd forgotten how brilliant he was in the show. Ahh the good old days!

re: La Cage Aux Folles

Yep he certainly was. Just the right amount of camp tho back in those days it was seen as positively outrageous! lol
You said it - ahh the good old days!
