Hello! I love reading the message board, it helps keep me up to date between trips to New York. I'll be visiting next week and would welcome any advice about the 2 shows at the top of my list. Lady Day, has anyone rushed since the Tony's? And I want to verify that it is a general rush. If that doesn't work, I've noticed it on TKTS, can anyone speak as to what prices I might expect going that route? My daughter, a college student, would like to see Cabaret. Can anyone give me advice about the 1/2 price student ticket availability? Do they sell these tickets, if available, 1 hour prior to curtain?

I believe there is a program called HipTix where students can pre-order tickets for Cabaret, which means you probably already can't get them one week out. There is also a general rush when the box office opens and a student rush half hour before showtime, but those are based on availability, so if the show looks sold out online, you might be wasting your time there (but they do have subscribers who can cancel and free up seats).

Not sure what they have been doing on TKTS for Lady Day, typically it is 30 to 50% off of the full ticket price, whereas the discount codes online now are for 36%, and you can pick the seats you want in advance. I live in NYC and rarely do TKTS over discount codes.

I believe that the seats for Cabaret rush are the ones in the rear mezz (which are where the HipTix are), so if they are sold out there isn't a rush.

It has been on TKTS for the past 3 Wednesday matinees though (today it is 40% off).

Hiptix for Cabaret (yes, rear mezz) have been sold out for months, at least for this part of the run. It's worth signing up to give it a try, of course, but I wouldn't expect to find seats. I've had multiple issues with their web system when logged into my Hiptix account, so your best bet is to call Audience Services and talk to an actual person. They're really nice. Their rush is kind of a crapshoot because it depends on availability. Pretty sure you can get them when the box office opens at 10 am. I wanted cheap(er) tickets to Cabaret and I hate the Studio 54 rear mezz, so what I ended up doing was putting down the extra $75 for a Hiptix Gold membership, and then buying my Cabaret tickets for $25 each. So they ended up being $62.50 each, and they were orchestra seats, which all things considered was pretty reasonable.

(Also, Hiptix is not just for students; it's for anyone under 35, and your +1 can be any age.)

Anyway, I hope you and your daughter get to see it, it's the most magnificent thing.

I rushed Lady Day BEFORE the Tonys and it was bonkers. Got there like 20 minutes before the box office opened on a Sunday, there was a short line, but there were no actual rush seats because the performance was nearly sold out. They had like five remaining tickets that they were selling at full price, and standing room -- so we ended up going with the SRO. I think they were $30 each and the show is short. Also, if you want to see what's on TKTS in real time, get the TDF app. You can also see what's been on recently by looking at their website.

Thank you! I do have the tkts/tdf app and did notice both shows on today for matinee. I typically use tdf, discount codes or rush/SRO when I can. In the case of Cabaret and Lady Day my back up plan will be TKTS. Thanks luvtheEmcee for your detailed information, I didn't realize Lady Day had SRO. I will also look into HipTix. My daughter is a huge Alan Cumming fan, still in awe of his Macbeth performance.
