KIss, that is. I saw a production of Camelot wherein Lance Kissed Guenevere and it stunned me...I thought their romance was never consumated...it makes so much more sense to me if he never actually makes love to her (kissing included)...what do you think?

I personally think it is more powerful if the romance is NEVER acted on. I totally agree redhot.
I only watched the movie and never doubt that Lance and Guenevera did make love. Never think about that they didnot.
in ALL versions of the movie, I do believe it's made obvious that they had sex. I've actually never seen the play, so can't speak to that.
However.......I don't believe Arthur would have allowed a death sentence if they had NOT had sex.
Makes more sense to me if they do......
I thought Lancelot was gay...
I can't think of any form of the Arthurian legend where Lancelot and Guenevere did NOT have sex. Plus, in The Once and Future King, the actual basis for the musical Camelot, they certainly did.

When Guinevere sings "I loved you once in silence," I believe she is referring to the period of time between the time they first felt the stirrings of attraction for each other (the post-joust-miracle scene through the end of Act One)and when their passion was consummated ("we flung wide our prison doors"). Act Two of CAMELOT opens with Lancelot singing IF EVER I WOULD LEAVE YOU and the first line following the song is spoken by Guinevere, who says, "Do you think Arthur knows?," the implication being that they have done the beast with two backs sometime during intermission, thus sealing Camelot's doom.

Yes, I believe they did consummate their love, too. Otherwise there would not be as much heartbreak over her betrayal.
Cats,
Every production I've ever done has had a gay Lancelot.
Go figure
