L5Y is one of my all time favorite musicals! Jason Robert Brown is Brilliant-in every sense of the word! And to anyone who was asking if they would still understand it if they didnt see it...yes, well if you listen to it all the way through and read the synopsis inside the cd booklet...ive never seen it because there hasnt bene any productions near me...ive tried several times to see it but it never worked out...but it is still one of my favorite shows! its amazing...I can't say one thing about it. The way Brown writes you feel every emotion of the character and to add to that it's sherie and norbert and they are both AMAZING!I could listen to it everyday for the rest of myself and I don't think I'd ever get sick of it. It is sad tho that most people haven't even heard of it. If you truely love musical theater...it is something you should know...like les mis..or phantom...or rent...or aida...its an amazing musical.

I love it so much that I have lost the CD. I can't remember where I put it.
Last Five Years is fantabulous! I've only seen a bootleg video of it (don't tell the Fuzz), but it's one of my 4 favorite shows.
LOVE IT. Ive seen 2 productions of it... one amazing and one TERRIBLE. The first one was at SpeakEasy Stage, in boston. Becka Ayers and some guy. Both amazing. Google it... i wouldnt be suprised to see either of them do it again. Another production I was was at a High School on Cape Cod, but it was the VOcal Jazz Teacher (late 20s) and his friend/ another teacher. She was Alright... not Cathy, but alright. He had no personality AT ALL. really, NONE. It was painful. Some former HS student there "directed" it.. but just made a mess out of it. They were in dorm rooms on either side of the stage (Which KINDA works for 1/2 of each relationship, if you get that...) and a barbie car drove across the stage durring "my best friend had a little.......".
Enough Said.
LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE the show.
If theres one in jersey, lemme know.

Ooooh, I was wondering when CathyHyatt was going to make an appearance.
JaimeWellerstein shows up every now and then.
EDIT: I just checked njtheater.com which, sometimes, is quasi-helpful and they didn't have anything for L5Y except the one that played at Rutgers this past spring.
Anybody know anything about this alleged NJ production?
that's so funny! I've also seen 2 productions of L5Y, one amazing and one terrible. The amazing one was the California premiere at Laguna Playhouse with Rick Cornette and Kim Huber. Both were excellent in their roles and managed to make the show work marvelously in a large theatre. Huber was a Belle in BatB a few years back, and she really sang the hell out of the Cathy role. Cornette had a more-than-capable voice but it was his personality onstage that made you love his Jamie. It was very over the top, most notably the goofy dancing he incorporated into Shiksa Goddess and the Schmuel Song, and alternately understated, vulnerable, and heart-wrenching during such songs as "Nobody Needs To Know". By the end it was "Norbert who?"
The terrible one was that Speakeasy attempt newsieboy mentioned. Becky Ayers was fine for the most part, until her voice gave out during "We Can Do Better". But it's very demanding music so it was understandable, if unfortunate. Not so fine was the guy playing Jamie, Tally Sessions. His credits were impressive but this role is clearly out of his comfortable voice range. Much of it was too high for him, and it took a toll on his confidence and overall character. The result was a performance that felt under-rehearsed and hesitant, making true chemistry with the hard-working Ayers impossible. By the end, I couldn't wait for the relationship to be over and done with. Also, the set was rather unattractive and the orchestrations were anemic. I'm sure Speakeasy does some good work, but I can't say from personal experience.

Did anyone else here see the New York and/or Philadelphia productions? I enjoyed the Philadelphia staging, design and direction much more than in New York, but I thought Norbert Leo Butz and Sherie Rene Scott were better in their respective parts than the actors in the Philadelphia production. Of course, I also think that Lauren Kennedy was the best Cathy ever and should be in another production, but that's another story...
