I just checked in with Laura's rep to see if she was back tonight - here's what she said:
"We're happy to announce that, as scheduled, Laura Benanti will be back on stage in Gypsy beginning tonight. Benanti will perform in Friday and Saturday's evening performances and Sunday's matinee. She looks forward to resuming Wednesday and Saturday matinee performances as soon as her doctor advises she is well enough to do so."
Good to hear!

I didn't even know she was out! Does anybody know how her standby did and how it was different from Laura's?

wait so she isn't doing wednesday or saturday matinees?
I hope Riedel doesn't rail against her.
So, she's well enough to do evenings? That seems kinda weird... I know two show days are tough... but... seriously?

So Patti's doing 8 shows a week and Laura 6.
What an uneven World.
As far as Reidel jumping on this, he should, just to be fair cause he did it to Bernadette and Donna.

no, he shouldnt.
we should all let the woman recover from her pneumonia & be supportive, & i know she will come back stronger than before!

Laura wants to return more than anything, I'm sure. She is following doctor's orders. Her health is an issue and she cannot rush the healing process. We all saw what happened with that during the NINE fiasco.
I just don't understand how someone who really has walking pneumonia could perform ANY performances. It doesn't seem like the type of illness that would allow a performer to do six shows a week, and recover on her two matinée days off.

Hey come to my thread and share your thoughts about the worst thread makers on broadway world.

She is not performing with walking pneumonia and she will most likely be back on matinees on Wednesday. If not then, Saturday. Her doctor wants her to go back in slowly as to not shock her system. It makes sense.
Laura was constantly blowing her nose during the performance tonight, I don't if that was part of her interpretation, but it definitely wasn't there over the summer. I thought she worked it in very well. She was still giving a very solid performance.
I think Patti definitely sounded sick. She had trouble reaching some of the higher notes tonight. She still turned in a great performance nonetheless, despite all the coughing/vocal issues.
I saw yesterday's matinee and I was extremely dissapointed that Laura was not in but her understudy was great! I don't have the playbill by me so her name escapes me but I really enjoyed her performance as Louise. And I caught an apple! :)
Whoa I would have never known, I was there at the show on Friday evening. She only coughed 2 times in the second act. Here is to catching apples!
Anyone else there on Friday evening-Rod Stewart was in the audience.
Was she back for yesterday's matinée, as iluvtheatertrash predicted?
