Ooh, Asmeret Ghebremichael is the understudy? I'd love to see her.
I agree with somethingwicked; I've always seen Shoshana Bean as The Lady of the Lake.
Not to diminish the role of an understudy and I don't know who you're talking about, but I'm with ruprecht and the majority on this and All that chat, give the *role itself* to Orfeh. I hear Kennedy is(all this time later), still working out her performance kinks and that's really unfair to people paying that much money for a show. I realize the average ticket buyer doesn't know any better, but if there is in fact, a far better performer to give the audience the most bang for their buck, why settle for less?
I can't believe this thread is back but since it is, let's clarify, Rosena Hill, if I'm not mistaken, is Kennedy's stand-by, so any understudy would be "in case of emergency".
And yes, all of this is besides the point. Orfeh should be playing the role itself. nuff said, no really, enough said.

Whether or not Orfeh can play the role or not is moot if she isn't interested in the role. Who knows if she ever expressed interest in playing it. From what I've heard of her she defintely has the voice for it though. But just because she'd be good in it doesn't mean she wants to do it.
I should have clarified my "really, enough said". I completely agree with you CAB. It's all moot.
We know nothing about the situation and moreover, no matter how many times we post our wishes and ideal casting opinions, and no matter how badly we all want her, or anyone else for that matter, to play certain roles and no matter how many "fools" say how terrible certain actors would be in certain roles, no one cares.
The FACT is, Lauren Kennedy is playing the role, do I agree with the choice, no, and apparently more people agree with me than they do with the powers that be that did cast her. However, it makes no difference. No one with an ounce of authority, is reading and even if they are, they simply don't care. We can't dictate casting for Broadway shows. Do some of us know better, absolutely, but in a perfectly screwed up chat board world, no one besides Sutton Foster, Menzel and Chenoweth would EVER get cast, so there is a bright side to the ignorance of us as well.
I saw Lauren Kennedy last week, and although she sang well and was comedic, I don't think the "Lady of the Lake" role has the same impact now as when Sara was in the role. I am basing this on multiple friends' comments who felt Sara was a comic and vocal highlight...Lauren is good, but for me she was not a highlight. (I thought the part was sort of dumb, most of the time, nothing to do with Lauren.)
It's hard to imagine Tim Curry being significantly better than Simon Russel Beale, it's just that it was frickin' Tim Curry. (Simon was great in the role and has a terrific voice. You could even see him breaking up from time to time at Hank's antics.)
Of course, my highlights were Hank (esp. as the French Taunter) and David HP (as Sir Robin and the guard to Prince Herbert--and--"You'll never succeed on Broadway.").
