Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.

Sorry. I tried posting it directly and it didnt work, so there's the link.

Personally I prefer Lauren Kennedy. I never saw Sara Ramirez but I have the obcr, her voice is beautiful no doubt but there is just something about Lauren Kennedy's voice it's so beautiful and so powerful. I just thought she was perfect for the lady of the lake, but again my opinion is bias seeing as how I only saw Lauren and not sara and I got a picture with Lauren and she told me my hair was pretty hehe so again I'm biased.
I'm not going to pass judgement, I'm sure the woman is a hard worker but I think it's idiotic for Orfeh to not have this role as we speak and a great many people agree with me over on ATC.
Here's he post that started it edited for length: Posted by: BWayFan27 11:38 pm EST 12/27/05 So I caught the new cast members of Spamalot... Now comes the part I dread....Lauren Kennedy. Granted she had HUGE shoes to fill replacing Sara Ramirez. The whole time I kept thinking "She is totally, amazingly miscast in this role." She's good, but not for The Lady Of The Lake. Why did they cast an ingenue for a character role???
Her singing is fine, but her comedy is really flat. She's playing the comedy and everyone else around her is playing the scene. Her "Diva's Lament" was anything but a diva. They did such a great job with Alan Tudyk and Simon Russell Beale, I guess they had to screw up a little bit with at least one role.
Please bring Ofreh, Amy Spanger, Ramona Keller, or ANYONE else into the show!!! Get a character actress in there who can belt to the rafters, and who can land a joke. Is that so hard???? :)
If you want to read the rest (it's a long thread), go to ATC.
good opinion, i mean, like, i have no prob with lauren, but i still think sara owns the role and they should really bring in a black girl to do it, that would be amazing! :)
I don't know about it having to be a black girl, but it shouldn't be a milquetoast "ingenue", it should be a diva like Orfeh who can sing most girls, black or white, under the table and has the comic chops that easily rival Sara Ramirezes'.
A friend of mine saw Lauren's first show, and when I mentioned to her how I thought a black girl would have been amazing, she said a white girl like Lauren trying to sing like a black actress would made it funny. Not saying I agree but that might have been the appeal the producers might have seen, since most people thought they'de go ethnic with the role. She liked Lauren btw.
