Lead Vs. Featured.

Was curious about which categories some actors might be placed in, since the first eligibility meeting hasn't happened yet. Any opinions on:

Kieran Culkin-Lead or featured?
Is there a lead actress in You Can't Take It With You?
Is there a lead actor in Side Show?
Nathan Lane-Lead or featured?
Is there a lead actress in On The Town?

and any others people aren't sure about

Those would depend on playbill billing and producer petitions.
If a person is billed above the title, automatic lead. Below the title, automatic featured, it is simple to change that, as the producers just file a petition with the committee. No, you can not really gauge as there is not necessarily much sense to it other than where the producer thinks they have the best shot.

I don't necessarily agree with these, but I would guess that the Tony Committee will rule the following based on the producer's petitions:

Kieran Culkin is Leading
Rose Byrne (and maybe Kristine Nielsen?) is leading
Ryan Silverman and Matthe Hydzik are leading
Nathan Lane is Leading
On the Town actresses are featured

I'm wondering whether the 2 women in the River will be featured or leading.

Broadwayguy2: I know how the system works, I was just curious where people think the actors might end up

JBroadway haven't seen the River yet so I can't weigh in on that, but do you think there's a chance they might have Hydzik in supporting and Silverman in lead?

Not saying you don't know how. Just reiterating that it's often fruitless to guess other than to look at billing at precedent. There's little little logic aside from that

I think there is a chance they'll put Hydzik in featured and might petition Silverman into leading to spread them between the two categories. Also, as of right now in Side Show, neither of the actresses playing the twins are over the title-but I'm sure they'll be in leading.

"Also, as of right now in Side Show, neither of the actresses playing the twins are over the title-but I'm sure they'll be in leading"

Absolutely they will be considered for Best Actress. Even if the producers fail to submit a petition for the category adjustment the committee does have the power to make decisions based on their own judgment. The question I have is will they be considered for a joint nomination like Alice and Emily were or will they be considered/potentially nominated individually?

I am guessing the producers will attempt to have them considered jointly, saying there is precedent (which is completely true). I'm guessing they won't want them competing for a nomination or votes.
