They've had 3 weeks of shows posted for a while -- and I'm not sure how much you expected 24 hours after nominations to really be affected -- noms seldom make a big difference.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

"Noms seldom make a big difference?"

- The Producers
- Jersey Boys
- The Book of Mormon

I know you qualified your statement with "seldom" but haven't there been more shows that got a nice boost when the nominations happened or am I confusing that with the day after the actual Tony win?

I think you are confusing it with wins. Both the Producers and Book of Mormon were doing well before the nominations (to the best of my recollection) -- they went terribly out of control after the wins. Noms don't often make a big difference, but the wins can -- but not always!

And as far as Leap goes, people will notice it only got the single nomination and that will pretty much negate any attention.

I can't remember any nomination that boosted a show from dismal to a decent or even successful run.

I got my Leap of Faith ticket for today on TDF a few weeks ago. Funny, it's the first time my $42 TDF ticket was actually more expensive than the average ticket price!

Mama, don't you think the Next to Normal was helped by its nominations? This is one show that I think Brantley's review and the nominations actually helped it to keep going. It was regularly available on TDF through much of the run, but still recouped. I realize that it was a small theater, cast, musicians etc.

I think that when people are at the TKTS booth and they are faced with say a choice of an original show, with no "hollywood" or big name stars vs seeing some B rate celebrity as Roxie in Chicago that the nominations did help tip people towards seeing Next to Normal.

Hm....I'm not sure. I know her crazy acceptance speech certainly got people in the door...but I don't remember a bump after the noms (doesn't mean it didn't happen, though.)

And when I think of bumps, I do think about a sizable increase in sales. Now I want to take a look.....

Interesting....I did take a look at the grosses...they did get a nice attendance bump (around when I assume the noms were released) and then the money bump really happened after the awards. That being said, their average ticket price was never impressive: 66 dollar average ticket price with only an average of 54 % of their potential gross over its entire run.

Great job on their producers for beleiving in the show and it's potential -- although I'm sure it didn't make anyone a lot of money.

Oh Miss Alice...how I miss her. There's just no one like her at the stage door. BTW, the TONY Awards should have a special mention for Best Performance by a Fanboy/Fangirl at the stage door.

Jersey Boys was already STEADILY playing to houses filled in the 90th percentile (and all through that first winter) and didn't start selling out until after the Tony AWARDS.

Same was true of The Producers.

Book of Mormon was playing to above capacity after the first two weeks of previews.

The question is,... do you think Leap of Faith will last these 21 performances??

If you had a 1 out of 4 chance of winning the lottery...would you throw away the ticket?

Although it will be tough to hold on until the Tony Awards even knowing it is not a good chance to win....they can always count on hope. Doubt they would close prior to the Tony Awards.

Except the Tony Awards is not a random selection. They have no hope.

If we don't hear anything by the end of this week, they will hold on until the end of the week of the Tony Awards. IF there is a significant bump in that week, then it might run the summer.

Only time will tell.

Cry-Baby held on until after the awards...but, it had a chance of winning Best Choreography. Still, even if it had won that award over In The Heights, that alone would not have ensured and increase in sales at the box office.
