Orchestra right....rush tickets..Row P
I have terrible problems with any 'broken' accent, even Irish/Scottish but that's just me, I would never walk out in intermission because I feel that every performer tries to give of their best but of course, Reg, he is entitled to his opinion, I wasn't knocking that, it's just that I fear that when people walk out, it can't do the production any good.
Also, I feel sure that most people know the storyline of Evita by now and would be able to follow it regardless of an accent .....just my opinion

Rush tickets - so you didn't lose that much money. I was asking because I never like sitting under the mezzanine for any theater performance as it affects the sound. Perhaps that affected your understanding Elena aside from her accent, which in my opinion is not bad at all. I had seats in the last row for Sister Act and the sound was terrible! I couldn't make out a lot of what Raven was singing.
Staying and being miserable probably wouldn't be helping either.
I didn't have a problem understanding her at all. On the other hand, I know the show very well.
I will say that I think some of her best work was in the final scenes, as Eva succumbs to her illness. But if the OP was hating her in Act I, I doubt he'd have felt different about Act II.
You missed a great dress, though, broadwayrob.

broadwayrob, you are bloody ignorant, don't you agree? you're complaining about someone's performance... and you didn't even have the decency to sit through her ENTIRE performance?! you left in the middle of her character's story arc!!!! HOLY#%$ friend. immature comments, such as YOUR OWN, are one of the reasons why producers and cds hire godforsaken names instead of choosing from THE TALENT POOL of the theatre. however, ELENA THANKS YOU FOR YOUR PURCHASE
I paid full price, and if I hadn't been with friends, I would have gladly left this piece of horse manure at intermission. It was absolute torture to sit through ... Elena's screeching and warbling and completely unintelligible lyrics/dialogue coupled with Ricky's total lack of talent, along with direction that made no sense and ugly choreography (which looked even worse when Max tried to look like a dancer ... NOT). Absolutely loathed this production. Can easily say it is one of the worst productions I have ever seen.
I don't see it as ignorance. As others have said, if you want to leave you should leave, and it's better to do so at intermission than make some sort of disturbance. I've only let one show, and it was Fringe show done in a tiny venue that was boiling hot and was basically a lot of gross out humour being shouted at the audience--as it was, I probably should have stayed as by the time I finally made myself leave the "play" had about ten minutes left. Otherwise, I don't get to go to the theatre as often as I would like, and there's usually *something* on stage that I can focus on even if I'm not enjoying the show. (Come to think of it, I can only remember leaving a movie once as well, and it was on an awful first, and only, date where he had picked some torture porn movie I really was having trouble sitting through made worse by my date's constant loud comments of "awesome" everytime someone would be dismembered).
What I find odd about the original poster's post though is he seemed to love everything but Elena--if the rest of the cast, or the production or whatever was so well done, I would think it would be worthwhile to stay even if you didn't like the lead (even in a show like Evita where the lead is pretty important). chacun son got.

"I have walked out on some movies! Haha who hasn't!?"
I haven't.
"Ive walked out of one show before and there are a few I wish I had. My TIME is mire important than my money and if I'm having an awful time, I'm not staying. No one should."
Unbelievably, considering how many shows I've seen, I never done that either, but to be fair, I've never had a theatrical experience that I would liken to "torture". I've seen things I didn't like, but I always find something to take away from a performance. My time is very important to me, and when I allot it to something, I want to see it through. I mean, what else are you going to do with that hour and a half of time that you couldn't do later? Aren't you the least bit curious whether the show will get better - or worse? I've never understood the "stay b/c I paid money to see this", though.
The only show I would ever have walked out on was PASSING STRANGE. I stayed b/c I'd been gifted a comp. Had I paid full price, I'd have been out that door like a rocket at intermission.
Probably - but I'll bet I would have regretted it later.
Despite taking in plenty of each every year, I have also never walked out of a show or a movie.

Funny, I think I'd be at least slightly more likely to walk out on something I hadn't paid for than what I had. Unless it was a comp due to having a friend involved in the show.
I walked out of "Jekyll and Hyde." I wasn't enjoying it (at all, really), but I would have seen it through. But my companion was miserable, and I didn't mind leaving.
I'd rather die than walk out at intermission, I think it's insulting

Nobody should have to sit through the entirety of something they don't enjoy. Ignorance is willingly forcing yourself to endure something that is making you miserable. Once you buy your ticket, you can leave at any time for any reason and feel free to express your opinion on what you saw. Period. And if someone walks out of a show, there is a reason why they did. That's not ignorant. It's logical.
vegas2..it's a bit much calling someone ignorant because he chose to leave a show during intermission. Ultimately, it's his choice. The fact that you castigate him says more about you than him. from RC in Austin, Texas

I'm in the business. A comp is a comp. I was given it so there would be an ass in that seat. To me, that's a contract. To walk out violates it. To walk out on a show a friend is involved in (or worse, not show up at all, because "Hey, it was free, so no loss, right?") is unforgivable. Money would never be a deciding factor for me, though. The play really is the thing - how much (or little) I paid for it is irrelevant.
"I'd rather die than walk out at intermission, I think it's insulting"
"Dying would be more insulting, though."
I think I have to agree with Reg here. It's a rather extreme way of getting out of leaving a show you don't like.
I think every production on Broadway are the best and the best performers or they wouldn't be there, maybe everyone is becoming complacent and wanting more and more and more. Keep rejecting and walking out and Broadway will die.
And Ghostlight2..as if I can die to order!
"Some people are rude here at the forums... I dot understand why."
Because they are afraid of being themselves for fear of the same treatment.
"Every production on Broadway are the best?" So even the worst Broadway production is superior to anything else in any other theatre in the world?
'I think every production on Broadway are the best and the best performers or they wouldn't be there,'
