I was frankly surprised to see a photograph of Lee at the opening of GREY GARDENS on Broadway.
Radziwill is, of course, indirectly responsible for the original documentary; she first directed the Maysles towards the Beales as part of a film project she commisioned for herself, but horrified at the footage they shot of Edie and Edith insisted that it be destroyed (the Maysles then went back and struck their own deal with the Beales). She also walked out of the middle of the stage production of GG Off Broadway. Is she suddenly now a supporter of the work?
My mother hates Lee Radziwill.

I love my mother.
what'd she do??
I remember in Gore Vidal's autobiography PALIMPSEST (which you all should read), there is a photo of Truman and the Princess, arm in arm, climbing up stairs from the subway. The caption reads: "Back from consorting with the Lord of the Flies".

Well, for one thing, William Ivey Long is a good friend of hers.
Also, She might have walked out of the O-B stage production because it was bringing back too many painful memories. Many members from the glory days of the Bouvier family are now dead, so it might have been too much of an emotional experience for her to be there.

I was there the night she walked out at Playwrights Horizons, though I didn't actually see her leave at intermission. I remember noticing her in the lobby before the show with the gargantuan and dandily attired Andre Leon Talley.

She did not walk out...that is a story widely spread and it is not true. I am a friend of Lee's and she stayed throughout, but her companion did leave at intermission - so Lee may not have been spotted for the second half by some in attendance - but she was still there.
She re-attended for the Broadway re-opening with a different companion - Douglas Cramer, TV and theatrical producer. She didn't walk out then either.
I never believed that story about her walking out. She may be a bitch, but she's a classy bitch and she would never walk out of a show about her relatives at intermission. Doing so would enable gossips to have an upper hand over her, something she rarely if ever drops her guard to do.
She's not a bitch! I've met her before and she was delightful and charming.
