I don't understand people who say the music is just Bay Boy with different lyrics. I don't hear it at all. Any specific instances?

I agree with you 100%. I do not even hear the same chords. Whereas in Seussical I can pick out Ragtime chords and in Joseph I can pick out other Webber musical chords.

"I saw the show Saturday night and was thoroughly disappointed. My main gripe was with the writing. Unless one is familiar with the (rather mediocre, yet entertaining) film, you would be completely lost. "

I disagree. I saw the show in SF, and having never seen the movie, had no trouble following the plot. (It's not very complicated!) Honestly, I didn't expect to like it - I was just taking my two pre-teen daughters. But I was very pleasantly surprised. So much so that I didn't mind honoring my girls' request to see the show again before it left town.

Every show doesn't need to be a work of art. I believe most people go into LB knowing that it's a light, fun show, and in that respect, it certainly delivers.

I loved the show! And hated the movie. Go figure. Great songs, acting, sets...just a really fun show.

Just returned from our 9 day trip to NYC where we saw the show twice (we loved it that much).... no its not life changing, its not met to be. It's FUN.
And judging by the line of people waiting in the monsoon Sunday for rush tickets... alot of people love it.
Also met one of the producers at the stage door, they are very pleased with the response and ticket sales. Both times we were there only saw scattered empty seats and one of the ushers said it was 90% capacity.
Personally, we've already bought tickets for our return trip this summer. Can't wait to see it again.

I've been following the pre-opening buzz developing around Legally Blonde since having seen it here in San Francisco (twice) and enjoying it considerably more than I had thought I would (as did my wife). My one word summary to friends at the time was "delightful." Made me hope that it would do well on Broadway, that it would find a receptive audience among all age groups, and that the congenital nay-sayers wouldn't be able to derail it. I totally disagree, by the way, with those who have found Laura Bell Bundy's performance less than star-quality. She is a joy to watch in this role.

I came across a review this morning that mirrors my own views perfectly. It's here:

It's thoughtful, I think balanced, and well-written. I recommend it.

I don't know BatBoy terribly well...but there was one Legally Blonde song (can someone help me out here?) where "Comfort and Joy" was VERY clear to me. In fact, it nagged at me where it was from because at the time I didn't know it was the same composers.

My 2 cents? From the student rush front row seat I had, I had an absolute blast.

I saw the show Sunday night with a group of regular theatre-goers and we all had a great time. I was a skeptic prior to seeing it, I admit, because so many people had told me that it's the next Hairspray (which is not a favorite of mine). I thought it was much better than Hairspray, in every way. It was an evening of absolute fun and we all left the theatre into the city of rain, with smiles on our faces. From what we could see, everyone around us had the same experience, including an elderly man who was sitting at the end of our row. There were a couple of weak numbers that could do with a rewrite (Blood in the Water, for instance) but overall, I think it's a show that a lot of people are going to enjoy. A very talented cast who all seem to be having a wonderful time up there. It's a silly, fun, and very funny show. I had seen the movie, as had everyone I went with, so I can't comment on how someone who hadn't seen the movie would like it. Not everyone is going to love every show. I'm not sure why people get so crazy about someone posting something with an opinion which is opposite to theirs.
