It figures you wouldn't like this show Too Darn Hot miles above anything that is out for Tonys this year except for Cry Baby which score I absolutely loved.
I admire the LB cast for their energy and agree that they deserve some love. So here’s my love. :)
I would be miserable watching a performer phoning it in, but LBB always seems like she’s giving it 110%. I love her spirit and enthusiasm. She’s a great performer.
Orfeh surprises me each time. She always does something different and constantly wows me.
Of course, Kate Shindle is a stand-out too. That voice of hers….just, wow. Someone please give her a leading role now. She’s one of my favorite people.
And oh gosh, how much I miss Nikki Snelson. Watching her last night on The Search for the Next Elle Woods reminded me of this. I love her and hope to see her in another show sometime. I wish I could see her in ACL.
I also have to mention Lindsay Nicole Chambers. I only saw her once I think in Beth’s track as the sorority girl and court stenographer, and she had me laughing non-stop. What a treat to watch. I heard she’s played so many different parts – Elle’s mom, the judge, even Aaron (err um, “Erin”). I wish I could see her in all of these roles. She’s so much fun to watch.
I love this entire cast. What a talented (and yes ENERGETIC) group of people.
Ive seen many shows and been in many shows (inc high energy shows Fame, Jailhouse Rock etc) and know how hard it is to sustain that energy performance for over a year. Are people surprised that LBB voice is giving out? if you like the score or not its a bitch of a score to sing (just the act 1 finale alone is a brilliant but nightmare of a song).
Miss Bundy has done fine in this role, she plays Elle Woods to perfection, her innocent naive charm bounces through in every song and she seems to understand the character inside out.Her Vocals (whilst slipping now) are fine in fact better than fine. She sings and dances flawlessly.
People on here were bashing LBB before the show even opened so i knew that the 'typical sheep' on here would follow the rest of the flock. It almost seems like it's the 'cool' thing to do on here (along with Hate Wicked and bash Rent)
Everyone of course is entitled to their OWN opinion, i just hope everyone who bashes LBB and the show has actually formed that opinion themselves.
This is such a strange thread, I felt the need to add my 4 cents. Critics across both coasts pretty much said the same thing about Bundy, that she was perfectly competent but lacked charisma and star wattage. If that weren't true the show would not be in the state it's been in, gross wise, for as long as it has been.
I know it's been said before but it's appropriate to repeat it here, they should have never banked on Bundy and Elle Woods being the "star" of Blonde, they should have made the show the selling point just like Wicked and Hairspray.
Also, it was either Bundy's foolish bravado or the producers poor judgement that they didn't get a standby for the role to begin with (read the umpteen threads on standby's vs. understudies).
You say its making over a Half a million a week, sometimes a lot more like it's a bad thing.
And i read a few comments from Critics (like the times) who said she lacked star power etc but most of what i read praised her and said she was well cast?
And let's not forget the Tony and Drama Desk noms for the role.
You say its making over a Half a million a week, sometimes a lot more like it's a bad thing.
The show may be making half a million a week but as far as I know, it still hasn't recouped yet (correct me if I'm wrong) and although I have no idea what their weekly nut is, they're probably not meeting it most of the time since they're having to resort to this reality show to drum up interest and ticket sales.
Just a thought.....
How are we supposed to know if it has recouped or not yet, since the producers have remained mum. But my bet is that it has, especially considering the $43 million its grossed since it premiered and the licensing fees for the MTV broadcast and the reality show.
And how exactly is "Legally Blonde" resorting to a reality show to drum up interest and ticket sales? Wow that was a hostile word...you'd think the people would be ecstatic that a hit show could appeal to another generation and bring in a new stream of Broadway fans that would have NEVER gone to see a Broadway show, and may walk out thinking "wow, that show was cool, I wonder what this Spring Awakening or Into the Heights down the street is..." The MTV broadcast (which hit record numbers for the channel) and subsequent reality show (which has been shockingly classy for the network its broadcast on) has done nothing that hurt Broadway or make it seem stupid, but it has embraced it and invited it open for a whole new generation of fans.
But, you know what, since I started this thread, can I ask for it to be closed or deleted? It's gone completely off topic and has become exactly what I didn't want it to be. Hardly anybody is praising the casts' energy, we are now simply bickering about the show's merits and LBB's talent and how desperate the show is OVER AND OVER with user trolls who refuse to have a public profile. It's old and there is no point in continuing it.
"How are we supposed to know if it has recouped or not yet"
They always announce it.... sometimes it just goes unnoticed.
"especially considering the $43 million its grossed"
where did you grab this figure from?
"The MTV broadcast (which hit record numbers for the channel)"
I must have missed that announcement...
"subsequent reality show (which has been shockingly classy for the network its broadcast on)"
Classy? How about shockingly moronic. It's been a terrible series so far.
They Don't always announce it all, and the show has been running for a year and has a HUGE budget to make back, im sure its doing fine.
The MTV broadcast was record ratings for that time slot and exceeded expectations, they were an article about that, in fact several.
The reality show is a typical American reality show, but i would much rather watch something like that the rest of the reality crap america throws out on a daily basis
Thanks songanddanceman. I had no idea that the broadcast of the show set viewing numbers.
And they do always announce recouping in some type of way. Sometimes playbill.com (and BWW) fails to post it
There's a lot of excitment in the show, and the songs make you want to jump up and dance!

I don't profess to be a musician. Or a musical director. I leave that to guys like Seth Rudetsky. But musicians and singers whose talent I do trust have told me that the finale of Act One in "Legally Blonde" is a bitch to sing. Apparently, the final notes are so awkward that several singers I know say they'd be hard pressed to belt them out for fear of singing off key. I listened to the song again and I can understand what they're suggesting, but I leave the final word to others.
TooDarnHot, get a public profile.
Why?
You asked for pictures of my stage work, so I posted two pictures! they are further back in the thread. Did you miss it?
If Legally Blonde is really that demanding for its star, they need to double cast the role like they did with Christine in the Las Vegas production of Phantom. Either that or have a standby that goes on twice a week so the girl playing Elle doesn't have to do the full eight shows. Are the people behind LB completely void of common sense?
I agree with whoever said that the shows' downfall was making LBB/Elle the reason to come out and see it. If they would have made it more about the overall production, my above suggestions wouldn't affect its success and Elle wouldn't be losing her voice and hardly making it not even a year into the run.

GrandMotel said that and also that she should have had a stand-by. The answer to your question is a BIG FAT YES! The people behind LB have proven time and again that common sense is sorely lacking.

I actually agree with TDH on both counts. I don't think that LBB is a good singer, and I think that her acting is over the top.
I don't find Laura Bell Bundy to be particularly talented, though I do admire her stamina to do the show 8 times a week and don't die of sugar overdose. This doesn't really relate but her voice confuses me, she has a kinda squeeky, pop singing voice, and then her speaking voice is kinda deep.
kudos to Sporkgoddess for understanding what I am saying! Amen.
