Last night I went to see Legally Blonde The Musical. It got some good reviews in SF so I got a ticket. I always like to see a new show. I had read some NY reviews and none of them were that good but I wanted to see it anyway.
Firstly, I thought the show was very fun. It was funny and it moved pretty quick. But saying that, of course there were some things I didn't like. To seperate these I'll make two lists-The good and bad.
THE GOOD-
-Orfeh. Who couldn't like her? She was hillarious and boy can she sing!
-Laura Bell Bundy. People say that they didn't like her in this, but I thought she was great
-David Rockwell's set. Big, Colorful and lots of fun. I'd be surprised if he didn't at least get a Tony Nom.
-Jerry Mitchel's Direction and Choreography. Uh...Wow! I especially liked It in "What You Want" and 'Whipped into Shape". I wish I could say the same for his direction.
-Andy Karl...and his UPS guy theme song
-The Greek Chorus. They were all so Talented. Loved them in "Positive" and "Bend & Snap"
-SOME of the songs. I liked "Omigod You Guys!", "Serious", "What You Want", "So Much Better", "Whipped into Shape" and the title song (and the remix). "There! Right There!" was alright too.
-The costumes. They were really good! The only thing I didn't like was Brooke's costume in "Whipped into shape"
THE BAD-
-Christian Borle. He's a good actor, but he just didn't do it for me in this. It might of been partly because of his part.
-Lyrics. While some of them were clever, others were just plane lame.
-Kate Shindle's singing. I'm not trying to be harsh or anything, and I know people disagree, but I find her singing extremely irritating. Her breathing and gasping for air is almost as bad as Idina Menzel's. Sorry I sound so critical.
-SOME of the songs. "Daughter of Delta Nu", "Blood in the water" and "The Harvard variations" unfortunately were not great. They weren't memorable or catchy enough. "Blood in the water" was funny, but I can't even remember how it, and the others, goes.
That's about it.
Please don't hate me if you disliked something I said. It's Just my opinion.
I thought it was mostly a very good show. I hope it goes well and has a good run.

Posted: 5/6/07 at 9:05amDon't apologize Dramarama, you pretty much said exactly right. Especially regarding some of the songs, Christian Borle and Kate Shindle. I'm going to go further and say I'm really surprised Kate didn't get far harsher reviews from the pro's. I get why they liked Christian and I'm not going to get into all those reasons here but Kate, don't get her at all.

Thank you for being far less harsh, dramarama2. You don't need to apologize.
I agree with almost everything you said. I, however, love Kate Shindle's take on Vivienne and her voice is perfect for the role, in my opinion.

Funny, I thought Kate Shindle and MIchael Rupert were the only reasons to see this. I thought Kate and Michael were the only one to truly nail her character.
Amazing how we all have such diverse opinions.
