I'd like to propose the start of a Lennon thread.
Anyone else interested?
First topic... from the Q & A today w/ scardino.
Q: So who plays John Lennon in LENNON?
DS: I decided that the best way to dramatize all his changes was not to have any one person play John, but rather have a whole company of actors play him. Men, women, younger, older, black, brown, pink. Every interesting show has to have some "big" idea at the core, and I guess that was mine.
-------------------
I like the concept... I guess that's why they picked theater vets rather than a big name.
Lennon Q & A
Sounds like "Balancing Act"...
John Lennon was arguably the first man I ever loved. From afar, of course, but still...
I am looking forward to this as much as I have anything else in a while, but I'm also worried. If it's done badly, it will hurt.
This is the only jukebox musical I actually want to see. (Besides the rumoured Madonna musical supposedly "in the works.")
1 MAJOR concern- it seems they've done away with the Indian character of Shaheed (I believe that was the name) who was an NYU grad student. India's influence on Lennon was HUGE, and it would have been awesome to include that aspect through the voice of an Indian character. I wonder who is going to sing "Across the Universe" and the unpublished "India, India?"
This is the one show I have absolutely no interest in. I'm just not a big Lennon fan.

I dont think that this is going to be good. Having multiple actors or different races and genders all playing john will be confusing. Plus Lennon's music doesnt (to me atleat) scream broadway. It seems Like Yoko is trying to make a little more cash. the only upside that I can see is that it will bring beatles fans to b'way. well we'll see what happens

I am looking forward to this show. I did not realize that all that Lennon will be played by actors of all races and gender. That is interesting. I'm not sure how the show itself will be, but with the cast they have lined up, I'm sure it will be great.
TERRENCE MANN
thats all I'm saying.
So excited!!!!

I think this will have mass appeal... what is needed for a successful Broadway run.
This is going to be awesome! I can't wait!
As one of the aforementioned "Beatles fans", I'll definately be checking this out. And yes, it doesn't hurt that Terrance Mann is involved.
I also agree, however, that they have to be careful here. In an era of Good Vibrations messes, it's easy to screw up and HARD to get it right like they did for ABBA's "Mamma Mia", (somehow or other- not going to speculate on that, though, since everyone seems to have their own opinion).

WOOOOO HOOOOOO! Any show that brings Terrence Mann and Mandy Gonzalez back to Broadway rocks my socks.
i'm really looking forward to seeing it when it opens in SF!!
anyone else??

I told my mother about it and she got very excited. It was odd, actually, she was very excited. Personally, I prefer Beatles-John, but that's ok. Its a great cast, so I'll see it when it trys out in Boston.
Does anyone else find the logo on the website creepy? What is the face made of?
EDIT: to include logo

Ok, so the two new songs. Anybody know anything about them?
This from today's Q&A on the lennon site.
Q: What are those new songs called?
DS: "Cooking In The Kitchen of Love", which is a bouncy rocker, "India, India", which is a sweet, mellow sort of tune about coming to India while his true love waits in England, and "I Don't Want to Lose You", which may be the saddest, most poignant love song he ever wrote.

Wife and I have tickets simply because Terrence Mann is in it.

personally, i like the logo. i'm more interested in the show being good!
I hope they don't ruin this. When does it start on Broadway?
2 men are responsible for the music of the last 50 years, Elvis Presley and John Lennon. Although Lennon's music does not scream Broadway, I do not see how a musical about his life and death can go wrong. Lennon was not far from Broadway when he was shot in 1980. There will be interest in John Lennon for many years, perhaps centuries, to come. I see the music of the last 50 years in terms of Elvis, The Beatles, ABBA from Sweden and Shania Twain. Shania is the female Elvis. That takes it full circle.

I certainly hope you're kidding about Shania. I mean, come on.

I thought this thread was about THE LENNON SISTERS. Can't think of anything more boring than John Lennon.
