This was easily one of the worst, dullest, dumbest shows I've ever seen on Broadway, in a trifecta with The Times They Are A-Changin' and Ring of Fire. That this reunion concert is sold out is interesting (despite the fact that 54 Below is rather small) - who is going? Friends/fans of the cast? John Lennon super-fans? Yoko's immediate circle?

I was mainly going to hear Will Chase, Chad Kimball and Mandy Gonzalez do some John Lennon tunes. Really don't know anything else about the show itself. I did not see this when it was first on Broadway. However, now that Mandy Gonzalez is no longer listed as a performer, I may opt out of the show entirely.

The Pittsburgh CLO did a revised "Ring of Fire" a few years ago that dropped both the conceit of the actors playing Johnny Cash, and the actors speaking to the audience in second person as if the patrons were Johnny Cash reminiscing. Instead, they did it as a straight-up revue: actor-musicians singing songs and swapping stories about Cash the same way they would Sinatra or Cole Porter in any of the many tributes to them.
Still not a great show altogether, but a VAST improvement over the more common versions.

I saw Lennon twice in San Francisco and I really enjoyed it. I'm going to this.

Is it sold out? They're still listed on Goldstar. Try that.

I agree. The revised version of RING OF FIRE basically plays as a concert with some light narration. Exactly what it should have been in the first place.

Yeah. I love CLO cabaret because they’ve developed a cottage industry for actor-muso productions and usually mount or premiere one per year. As someone who’s always had one foot in each world, I don’t usually audition but I appreciate their devotion to that form.
