re: Lennon still at 51 %-- UGH!!!!!

Actually you're not disagreeing with my comments about early Beatles' stuff. And I didn't say the later Beatles' music wasn't good. I just said that I thought John's later music was overall better.

I think we both like the later Beatles music and just phrased it differently.

I didn't find this show inspirational at all. I need more than inane sermonising to 'inspire' me. Any fool with some pot and a hippy lover can come up with a banality like 'give peace a chance'. This show demonstrated the complete lack of substance behind Lennon and Yoko's soundbite zeitgeist, ironically, by having no substance behind its own soundbite dreck. And although I loved the performance of 'Woman Is...', it's message is yawnsome and slightly irrelevant. What is funny is that people who see this are not at all going to go out and chnage the world, and that's what the show is trying to sell itself as, some kind of life-changing inspirational rock biography.

If anyone could have come up with Give Peace A Chance why didn't someone else write it? Sounds like you have a bone to pick with John Lennon for some reason. Getting rather personal.

re: Lennon still at 51 %-- UGH!!!!!

I have no bone to pick with John Lennon, up until I saw the show, the man has had barely anything to do with my life. And I don't see why critiscising John Lennon is wrong, based on the show Lennon. It is, after all, a biographical musical, named after one man, based on his life, music and message and is basically all about him. It couldn't be more personal if it tried. If it was a musical about the sixties, or about The Beatles, then it would be different but this show is all about John Lennon so if you don't like him, you don't like the show and vice versa.

There is no problem with not liking a show or voicing your opinion. I noticed though that you trash Lennon on any thread you can, rather odd.

bwayondabrain: Definitely avoid Lennon. It's poop. Sweet Charity and Dirty Rotten are super super fun. You'll be able to get discounts for both, either online or at TKTS.

showbiz: I am moaning about Lennon on a number of threads, but that's because there a number of threads talking about it. Why am I not allowed to join in these discussions, even if I think the show is dreck.

Jczelyph,

If anyone can write million selling songs why isn't everyone writing them? And if so, what million sellers of yours have we heard?

You're hatred is poisining you. Give it up already. You'll feel better, and replacing your negativity with a positive attitude will help in whatever career you're pursuing. You may even be able to write a million seller some day. re: Lennon still at 51 %-- UGH!!!!!

re: Lennon still at 51 %-- UGH!!!!!

slacker-jczelyph is just adding his thoughts of the show. At least he saw it (with an open mind, I hope). He's displaying a view of Lennon's life solely through the show, showing the show could use some work. I did a search on jczelyph's posts and yes, it seems like he's "bashing" the show today but keep in mind, he saw it last night. Jczelyph has a life and will get this over with, and so will you.

Go see it, develop your own opinion, post a review on the boards if you want, and go on with life.

A great score does not make a great show especially when it is a jukebox musical.

re: Lennon still at 51 %-- UGH!!!!!

Well I absolutely do not want to do this but I will just to prove a point. I saw Sweet Charity and hated it. There I said it and I feel terrible that I put that out there. I don't like bashing theater period. The arts are in enough trouble in this country without those of us who supposedly love theater and supposedly support it, trashing it. If I bounce from thread to thread just to dump on Sweet Charity I'm sure I would offend a few and besides what would be the point? Would I have an ulterior motive to try and influence others to think like me and hasten the closing of Sweet Charity?
jczelyph, I honestly don't have a problem with anyone voicing an opinion about a show, but you must admit you were getting rather personal, character assassination, when you said on this thread "Any fool with some pot and a hippy lover can come up with a banality like 'give peace a chance'.
To answer bwayondabrain's question I'll keep my recommendation of the two shows mentioned short and sweet without bashing, I would go see Lennon, I loved it.

re: Lennon still at 51 %-- UGH!!!!!

Granted, I am posting a lot about Lennon today. I did see it less than 48 hours ago, and maybe my mistake was posting on a few threads about Lennon. I don't intend to poison anyone else's enjoyment of the show. Alas, now the discussion is spread over two ro three threads, for this I apologise. I'm guess I am bashing the show, but it's because I felt disappointed and really wanted it to surprise me by being better than the negative reviews on here.

As for not bashing theatre because "the arts are in trouble", we shouldn't have to put up with poor theatre just because it's theatre. Poor theatre is only going to hasten the demise of an artform. Campaigning to rid the world of cruddy theatre will only serve to enhance the global appeal of good theatre. It's fine you don't like Sweet Charity, showbiz. I liked it, but can see where people might not think it's so good.

"You're hatred is poisining you. Give it up already. You'll feel better, and replacing your negativity with a positive attitude will help in whatever career you're pursuing."

I can't even summon a response to this self-help banality. I'm not poisoned, I am not filled with hatred. My dislike for Lennon does not indicate this. What a ridiculous notion. I am filled with positivity, if you like, you can come to New York and we can meet, to demonstrate how fun and lovely I am. I just don't like Lennon, this doesn't make me Satan.

Bwayondabrain, I think it's quite clear by now that Jczelyph's opinions can be safely disregarded. Go see "Lennon" and you'll be very pleasantly surprised. You'll leave the Broadhurst wondering what show Jczelpyh could be talking about.

re: Lennon still at 51 %-- UGH!!!!!

I recommend seeing Lennon if you have enough money to not worry about an unsatisfactory product. Then and only then will you form a true appreciation of the show. This is what I did, and am pleased I did so. Judge the show for yourself.
