I'll be seeing it in Louisville. I'm very excited.
Bump. Anymore casting news?
Betsy Morgan left A Little Night Music today, and according to Elaine Stritch's curtain call speech she'll be playing "the lead," which I assume means Eponine.

Morgan would make for a lovely Fantine, as well.
Here's a video with some show clips/ audience reviews/ cast interviews. Looks like a stunning production.
Les Miserables 25th Anniversary Tour
FWIW, that's the 25th anniversary UK tour.
Oh sorry about that! I'm guessing that this will be the same production that will tour the US with a different cast?

I can see Morgan as Fantine or Cosette much more than Eponine.
bwaylvsong, I could definitely see her more as one of those too...hopefully there'll be an official announcement soon but she is definitely leaving to do the Les Mis tour.
I know this won't happen again but I would have loved to see Celia Keenan-Bolger as Ponine. I missed her in NYC and have seen a clip of her OMO, the emotion in her eyes alone brought me to tears!
L. Clayton is the same that toured as Judas in JCS, right?
The UK tour will be shipped over for the US tour.
What says this might aim for Broadway in a few years time?
^ I would LOVE to see this come to Broadway. It looks like a stunning production.

Micheal Kostroff is back as Thenardier, not my favorite but I thought he was pretty good. Interesting that we have an African American/Black Eponine(whatever term you want to use)since that is rare. It wouldn't be the first time Kostroff has had a minority play his daughter, last time she was Asian(Ma-Anne Dionisio).

didn't they already try this multiracial casting in the last revival? Is the jean val jean african american?
Yes he is; you'll find him here: http://www.agoodmanthemusical.com/
(And it's Valjean, one word.)
I dunno about Lawrence Clayton. I saw him as Judas several times and he was not a stand out for me...we'll see.
I saw him once as Judas and thought he was fine, but yeah, definitely not a standout. But it may have been because he was pretty much eclipsed by Eric Kunze.

Celia Keenan-Bolger was mentioned earlier and it reminded me of something I've wondered for a while. It's a random question, I know.
I can't imagine this is needed, but just to save from being yelled at:
SPOILER ALERT
When I saw her as Eponine, she leaned in for a kiss at the end of "A Little Fall of Rain". She died just as their lips were about to touch. I thought that was heartbreaking and a great acting choice. I was wondering if this "near kiss" is something that most Eponines do, or if that was just Celia.
It's been fairly common since the 10th anniversary on Broadway.

Yes, it's quite common. Actresses who play Eponine seem to take one of three paths:
1. Kiss
2. Near kiss
3. No kiss, simply dies.
I once saw a video clip of (I believe) a professional production in which Marius kissed Eponine before she died, which makes no sense for his character. Personally I would like to see the scene unfold how it did in the book, where Marius kisses Eponine on the forehead as a thoughtful gesture. That seems much more natural than any of the other scenarios.
Sorry for the overkill answer; I'm just a huge Eponine fan and have seen a lot of ALFORs.
I saw Varela as the Phantom. I have seen Phantom seven times and he is by far the best. He is an incredible performer with a lot of talent. I cannot wait to see what he does with this role!

Thank you, both.
theminutepast- no need to apologize, I love thorough answers! I'm a big fan, as well, but sadly have only seen it twice. The first time was in 2001 in Louisville. I had awful seats and bad vision (not a good combo!) I have no idea how that actress played the scene, so I don't know which of the 3 paths she chose. I was happy to see the revival from a good orchestra seat- I could actually see facial expressions! I will be seeing this tour from the front row of the mezzanine, so at least I will have had 3 different perspectives.
So true LizzieCurry, Eric Kunze was pretty awesome.

Looks like they quietly did a re-release of the cast list a couple of days ago. They've added the Gavroches, and apparently Ron Sharpe is the alternate Valjean: http://www.theatermania.com/touring-productions/news/10-2010/complete-cast-announced-for-us-tour-of-les-miserab_31180.html
