Hello again,
Here goes another.
Les Miserables Japanese Cast Recording, should I get the Green or the Red one? Or forget it?
Thanks in advance.
God Bless.
There are more than just those!
A friend just loaned me a copy of the Violet cast. Anyone more familiar with the foreign language recordings (Lizzie?) care to share their thoughts/opinions? How does it rate? I've never heard any of the other Japanese casts, so I don't know how it compares.

Gah. Each recording has its ups and downs about the cast. For example, red has the best Fantine, and I think all the other Fantines aren't that good in other recordings, but on the other hand, I don't think Kaga is the best Valjean.
My favorite would be red, green, and light blue (in no particular order.)
I only have the red one, sorry!

I think the Purple one is my favorite of the Japanese Cast Recordings, wyou17.
i'm rather partial to the pink polkadotted one, lol.

Agree about Kaga. Weak Valjean. Takes down the high notes in every song....Take and Eye for Eye is an octive lower for example. And there really is no excitement in his voice when there should be. Kinda a lounge singery voice. The others are good, but if you are a fan of the Valjean actor having an impressive voice, you will NOT be happy
I am aware that there are more. But people made me choose between green or red. Lizzie, which should I get? Should I get the red since you have that one? But my concern is the recording of the red, I heard, was bad.
Thanks everyone, thank you as well Lizzie.
Take Care.
GOD BLESS :)
The reason I got the red one was because it was the only one available at the time (1996 or so) from the guy I was buying a bunch of foreign recordings from -- it's always been easier to find than the blue.

I'd go with green.
I really want to find the Purple Japan Cast Recording. Mainly for Maaya Sakamoto's Eponine. I'm a huge fan of hers. Anyone know where I can find it?
Thanks CoooolKid! I think I will go with the green one. But Wow! I just saw it on amazon, $63.16! I will save first. :) It contains the complete recording as well right?
Thanks
HoshiForever, I was looking at amazon.co.jp, no luck as well. I tried looking at HMV, Yesasia.com no luck too. Sorry.

All the Japanese recordings are recorded live, but they sound fantastic. And, they did cut little bits from the recording so they could fit it into 2-disc format. But nothing significant.

I have the Red one and I really like it, I haven't heard any of the others. I agree with what others have said about the Fantine(she is my favorite on recording next to Ruthie) and Kaga(Valjean), his voice can get a little wild but he has a beautiful "Bring Him Home." The Eponine is Kaho Shimada(Eponine)on the CSR, she is even stronger(IMO)on this recording since it is in her native language.
I believe the one I have is the green one. What with this CD and loving the CSR best of the English language recordings, I've got quite a thing for Japanese Eponines. :3
If anyone ever does find somewhere to get hold of the purple cast CD, let me know! Maaya Sakamoto is TOO awesome! :3
FYI, the Japanese Les Mis recordings are:
Red (1994)
Blue (1994)
Green (2003)
Violet (2003)
Orange (2003)
Light Blue (2003)
Tricolor (1832)
Octarine (to be released in the year 8888 )

LOL, Marianne.
Oh ffs, mine must be the green one, it's got a green spine! And there's me trying to compare and contrast cast lists with my limited Japanese-comprehension skills all this time. XD
