I want FRENCH accents.
Why? Do you want them in Phantom too? Did you want them in Lestat? Should everyone in Beauty & the Beast sound like Lumiere?
How about Evita? Should they all be rolling their Rs?
Whenever Kristina hits the US, do you want Swedish accents?
How about all productions of Les Miz around the world? Should they all use French accents?

Lizzie: I was thinking the same thing!
That and . . . how many actors really do good accents? So either you have an actor who is putting a bad accent, or one who is so busy concentrating on their accent that their acting goes to hell. And I'm sure there are plenty who can put on a good accent, but I'm not sure I would enjoy the songs nearly as much!

Posted: 11/17/06 at 1:32pmDaphne doesn't sound any worse than a certain tour Fantine. Maybe they should have lowered the key for that Fantine, too.

Did not like Celia's On My Own. Thought Daphne looked like she was going through withdrawal during the little piece of I Dreamed A Dream that I saw.
Quite frankly, I've already seen the show, and I have no desire to see this production.

There are a few more clips, with and without their actual sound,
in the Word of Mouth review on Broadway.com
Nothing much, but what can ya do.

Great video. Daphne's performance brought a tear to my eye..very heartbreaking!
Does Victor Hawks have something in his contract that he has to carry someone in every show he does? I'm sure I'm the only one who notices that he has Gavroche (or his alternate) on this shoulders during One Day More. He also lifted and carried a lot of people in Urinetown as well.

All Brujons do that. So maybe so.

Posted: 11/19/06 at 9:03pmThanks for that bit of trivia, Lizzie. I guess they usually cast the big guys as Brujon.

"Though her shaking bothered me."
I totally agree. I'm kind of scared for her. I'm taking my friend to see it and she's never seen it before, so hopefully it's passable. I am so glad the video was put up. I do wish they would show some of the confrontation though. That would be amazing! :) I can't wait 'til January when I see it!!! Yay!

That, and 90% of the time Brujon understudies Valjean anyway.

wow, that video makes me want to see the show SO MUCH!! they ALL sound fantastic actually- including daphne, imo. In fact, I actually found that clip... rather brilliant. Then again, it kind of makes sense I think that I would like daphne, because I have a thing for very REAL, raw acting, which is what daphne has :) Ive never been the huugest fan of her voice, but somehow I think it works for that song! but again, for me I find the brilliance in her acting
but anyway, yeah, the cast just seems wonderful, I am sooo in need of seeing this show again... I always forget how much I love it till I listen to the recording again and then Im all ksdhfjkd LES MIS!! again

Which video are you referring to?
Haha, I know of 3.
But yeah, everyone who refers to Daphne's acting as raw or fresh usually likes how she does it.
Yeah I need to see it again too, not having a recording of this new cast makes it a pain to preserve it all.

I admitt, it is weird seeing Daphne as Fantine.
For me, the only thing I have heard/seen her in was Rent, and her voice is so distinct I can only vision her AS Mimi...
So, its hard for me to seperate Daphne- the Actress from Mimi the character. Rediculous, I know, seeing as Rent was over 10 years ago now, and shes had other roles since then.
But I didnt think she was as dramatically terrible as people are making her out to be on the board, its just...Daphne.
I can't put it any other way.

I like how I've heard her described as raw, which is what I really think it is.
She sounds broken down, and not what people think of as a traditional broadway voice.
It's a very distinct character choice.
