Lestat broke box offices

Posted: 2/5/06 at 9:04pmThis is just something I wanted to everyone to know who said it was going to fail. A lot of changes will be made and even without those changes it broke a record at the Curran. What can I say....I have a lot of faith in this show. Not to be rude but, I couldnt be happier to show everone who had no hope in this show that it will make a huge come back with the critics.

Posted: 2/5/06 at 9:53pmMaybe you need to know that the only reason it broke records is because it ran for two weeks longer than the previous record holder and also had higher ticket prices. That is the reason for the so-called record breaking sales.

Posted: 2/5/06 at 10:05pmActually it was a week and a half....and thats really not the point...the point is....it did really well along with bad writing so once they fix the writing it will do even better...

Er, I don't think that necessarily follows. A lot of the tickets in SF were purchased before the reviews came out, whereas in NY, they will have the negative buzz from what happened in SF.
It will be great if this show can turn itself around, but it will take a whole lot of work.

Posted: 2/5/06 at 10:12pmbut, i dont think alot of the fans of the books will pay attention to the reviews...I think it can turn around and alot of people know they are working on it so that will give New Yorkers some positivity about the show

"so once they fix the writing it will do even better... "
As if this can be done with the snap of the fingers.
It cost more per ticket to see, it ran longer, and had a hell of lot of pre-run anticipation which led to ticket sales for sits that were never filled after the initial reviews came out.
Get a hold of yourself.

Posted: 2/5/06 at 10:20pmSorry to all of those who understood me the first and SECOND time but i guess i will have to repeat myself again. It did well anyway, with bad writing....there are a ton of people that will see it because they love the books and Elton John knows exactly what needs to be fixed...and he is going to fix it....
#14re: Lestat broke box offices
Posted: 2/5/06 at 10:20pmIt did so well because of the names attached, and ran longer than Wicked did. It was great financially for a six week run, but the crap is not good enough to sustain itself on Broadway. It will be a flop, and I predict less than 100 performances.

I have information that will back me up for reasons it will do well....do any of you have any back up information for why it will do bad....because i havent seen any.....other than you just didn't like it....which i don't really care if you didn't anyway.

I have no idea how it will play in NY, and have no idea what changes will be made to improve it.
It may be amazing. I don't know. And neither do you.
I guess that is the point.
But, when you say it broke box office records, you should put the context of what happened if you are going to crow about it.
I did not see it. I have no idea whether it is as good or bad as others say. I just don't think it is a fair objective statement to say that it broke box office records when it had a longer run and higher ticket prices to other shows you are comparing it to.
BTW - I would like to see your stock tips if you can predict the future.

tool ( adj. )
A person, typically male, who says or does things that cause you to give them a 'what-are-you-even-doing-here' look. The 'what-are-you-even-doing-here' look is classified by a glare in the tool's direction and is usually accompanied by muttering of how big of a tool they are. The tool is usually someone who is unwelcome but no one has the balls to tell them to get lost. The tool is alwasys making comments that are out-of-place, out-of-line or just plain stupid. The tool is always trying too hard to fit in, and because of this, never will. However, the tool is useful because you can use them for things; money, rides, ect.

There are so many reasons it won't do well.
1. Too convoluted, especially in Act 1, granted, apparently thats one thing they are working on.
2. No Memorable songs. There just aren't. I like Elton usually, but these were dull.
3. No one I know of, other than LilBwayLady, liked it. A co worker came up to me when I got back from vacation right before it closed and proceeded to compain about why I didn't warn her how bad it was so she could've sold the ticket and not wasted three hours of her life. My response was that everyone should judge for themselves, and I stand by that, I've liked some shows that have flopped myself. But I have never seen a show, purported to be of Broadway quality, as disjointed as this, six weeks is not enough time to fix what's wrong with this show!
