Lestat broke box offices

Posted: 2/5/06 at 11:06pmNo, darling. You're the one getting fired up, and you're stating your opinion AS facts. The only FACTS that you're presenting us with are contrived and incomplete. 6 AM comes mighty early for you middle schoolers, especially on Mondays. Better hit the sack, buttercup.

The only facts are those which have been skewed somewhat as it pertains to its box office performance.
Everything else after that is opinion.

"...do any of you have any back up information for why it will do bad"
His post is so cute and naive, I love it.

I really hope your family has invested all of its capital in Lestat and you have to live and die by your predictions and opinions.
That is the only thing that could really make me understand your attitude.

Oh my have we gone quite off topic. LOL! Let's just sit back and chill people... Let Lestat's creative team do their jobs. If they can pull the show together with their massive overhaul and it becomes successful, then bravo! If it turns into a flop, then that's a shame. But at this point, both overly optimistic and pessimistic predictions for the show are pure speculation until we see the new changes to the show. I'm actually really excited to see Butterell's contributions.

Posted: 2/6/06 at 12:43amWell, broadwaybaby's point is obvious, but there is quite a gap between saving and resucitating, and this happens a lot when you try to stand in the middle between the financial and the artistic.

Thanks guys. I just think it's rather funny how all these Lestat posts turn out the same...a huge fight over what is to happen to the show. LOL! I guess that could be a good thing because everyone seems so passionate about what they are saying!
blaxx: Yes I agree it's very difficult to be the middle of financial and artistic aspects of a show. It seems recently, however, that many (if not most) shows tend to choose one over the other. It is rare these days to find a blockbuster show that has the artistic merits. Hopefully, a show like Lestat can find success in one, if not both, arenas.

I'm struck by the level of passion on these boards about Lestat - - and wonder why those people who supposedly hate it so much keep coming back to talk about it? This hasn't happened with other shows I know of.
I think there is also something of note about the fact that Lestat did break the box office record in SF and sell $4.3 million worth of seats for a show that got such mixed reviews - and that over half of tickets were sold AFTER the reviews came out. That's a lot of people paying a lot of money regardless of the reviews.
Good for Lilbwaylady for starting this thread - we'll see how it plays out in New York. Don't think anyone can predict it at this point, other than to say that it's not going to close on opening night...

Um, because it's something to talk about? The train-wreck factor? I've seen people talk badly about all sorts of shows, so this is hardly new.
Now I'm not saying that the show can't turn itself around, and for the sake of the talented actors, I hope that it will, but obviously I was not alone in finding the show pretty bad. And I don't see what's wrong in discussing it.
Sure, some people are sort of crazed about it, but it's an internet messageboard. Crazed comes with the territory.

Have you heard of Dance of the Vampires and In My Life?

Posted: 2/7/06 at 5:52amI didn't hate Lestat, but I really agree with the critic from the Chronicle. That doesn't mean that can't turn it around. Elton John just needs to invest more time into it and maybe they should bring more people in to the musical side of things. Listen to "Original Sin" by Taylor Dayne. That's what I was expecting from LESTAT.

Posted: 2/7/06 at 6:23amAh LilBroadwayShill, here's a fact about its upcoming Broadway run you might like to think on. Even with the same big names attached that it had in SF, it has almost no advance. Less than Woman In White had when they opened. And we all know what happened there. There was buzz around Woman In White that initially helped it survive. Lestat doesn't have that. At all.

Posted: 2/7/06 at 11:38amI personally thought that Lestat was good...I will be one of the first to admit that it does need some major work but I for one hope they do succeed. I also disagree with the statment that there were no memorable songs, I personally thought that Claudia's "I Want More" and Lestat and Gabrielle's "Make Me as You Are" were beautiful memorable songs.

There is a big Full page ad in VARIETY this week that states that LESTAT took in $4,315,293 making it "San Francisco's highest-grossing World Premiere ever."

The only song I remember is I Want Blood (or maybe it was More). I loved me some Claudia.
And I don't think I'll ever forget Marius' entrance at the end of Act 1.
Other than that, I don't remember much, except for a few visuals (IE, Hugh on the bow of the ship, and a few of the backstage theatre scenes)

And in really small print, "Because it ran longer than any other world premiere in San Francisco!"
Wait, that's just in my mind.
