So now that Lestat got a measly 2 nominations for the Tony's (that is not to imply that it should have gotten more), what should we expect in its future? I predict a closing notice for June. Should we expect a cast recording?

Being that it's Warner Bros first venture, I think they'l let it run for a while, even losing money as it is, and not face the embarassment of closing before summer is out.
That said, I wouldn't be surprised if a closing notice was up tommorow either.

If they're smart, they'll pull the plug now. But I fear you're right; they're naive enough to run it a while longer, let it hemmorage and die a (thematically appropriate) bloody death.

I believe they are recording the album on the May 22, according to a cast member. I don't have a link or anything but that's waht I heard.
I'm hoping it sticks out a little longer. It's sad because it's not nearly as bad as many make it out to seem, or so I felt.
re: Lestat's Future#4
Posted: 5/17/06 at 4:55pmI agree. It's a solid show that just isn't finding an audience. Plus it has an excellent cast. I do see the show closing some time after the Tonys though. Anyone know what it needs to break even? I noticed it was at around 70% last week in capacity. As soon as it drops further, the vultures will be circling.

Posted: 5/17/06 at 5:05pmI think I am going to see it a second time, because I really did enjoy it the first time, and I know I will be sad when it goes. It would be really fun to get a lot of Lestat fans together to go!!

You know, I think it would have better luck in London, or anywhere else.
hi jim. :)

I just got back from seeing the show, and the theatre couldn't have been half full. During the first act, I was one of perhaps 6 people in the balcony, and looking down at the mezz it was perhaps 1/3 full, and there was nearly an entire row of seats free in the orchestra.
I upgraded during intermission, which was nice. :) However, it was sad to see the cast give such a fantastic, energetic performance to a near empty theatre. I agree with those who have said that the show isn't as bad as critics have been making it out to be. There are some areas where its very notably weak, but I believe that the good parts are more than worth the price of tickets. Drew Sarich in particular is a great singer with an amazing stage presence, who dynamically captures his role.
I've been five times, partially because I really like the show, and partially because the student rush is around 6 dollars less than that of most shows.

Posted: 5/17/06 at 7:52pmI have to agree, the cast gets much kudos for the effort they put into the show. Not to mention it's a fabulous cast to begin with.

Yonah, you hit the nail right on the head there. That's exactly how I feel about the show.
<---and yay for Drew!

I doubt it. More like Germany or Japan.

Wonder if Sir Elton will get P.O.ed at the NY critics & not bring Billy Elliot to NY . Show was great & hopes it finds an audience. Hope the cast album does become a reality
Any thoughts ?

Actually, I think it would do very well in Germany or possibly France. It has that popish surprisingly cheerful tone that a lot of French shows seem to have in particular. It's very much a European style piece (which I don't think is a bad thing, as I love continental European theatre).

Definitely not as bad as everyone "thinks." I do hope it it lasts awhile. I'm going for the third/fourth times this weekend and would like to go back someday.
And about balcony seats, if you click on the buy tickets link at broadway.com, I don't even think they're offered. At least, they weren't in the past.

@ joanna2 -
I'm rather glad I'm not the only one who has been seeing it multiple times. Today was my fifth. I love your icon. :)

Posted: 5/17/06 at 10:26pmWB is watching how it does on a week by week basis, so, if it continues to slowly plummit, I would assume it will close in the next month or so, but sales may pick up during the summer, who knows.
re: Lestat's Future#19
Posted: 5/17/06 at 10:35pmI wish I could see it multiple times and support the show. I was lucky that I happened to be in the area during it's SF run.

I believe with some good daytime appearances, an agressive marketing campaign, and a CD - this could last out the summer into the fall (with tourists etc.).
Warner Bros. has invested too much in this to not record it and try and give this property some life after Bway. International productions are likely and I bet it would sprout up all over the place in the US once the rights are released. Everyone wants to do something new!

Posted: 5/18/06 at 11:56pmI really thought Lestat would run through the summer (just because it's produced by Warner Brothers), but I just heard that it will be posting its closing notice next week. Go see it while you can.
